Just an idea to kick around:

If the 'FOX is busy decrypting or something, we don't really want to interrupt it with a transition to standby. Suppose it could be told to defer standby until the housekeeping is finished? I have no idea whether this is possible - ir can intercept remote control commands, but not front panel button presses, and what about timer transitions or exit from half-awake?

It's possible to intercept the power-off command on its way to the front panel but the Humax software becomes unhappy. It keeps trying to tell the front panel to remove power as you'd imagine...
