I imagine that the bootHDRmode script could be modified to automatically detect an ext2 or ext3 drive and set up the mounts accordingly, but this is beyond my ability.

Just take out the "-t ext3" (or ext2) bit completely and let it figure it out for itself...

I didn't expect it to be that simple. I've checked and bootHDR works with both ext2 and ext3 formatted drives with the suggested edit.
