Remote controls not responding

Recently the remote controls (a standard Humax and Logitech Harmony 525) have stopped working and only a power cycle seems to get them back.

A recent update to the latest custom firmware appeared to have solved the problem for a week, but it has now started reoccurring.

Possibly linked issues are;
The "ir package" has never worked, even though have tried remote control modes 1, 2 and 3
Having problems recording from Channel 4HD and E4, sometimes displays message "This channel is unavailable or scrambled" or picture is heavily pixelated.
The other HDR-Fox T2 in the house doesn't seem to have any of these problems.

Thanks for any help help or suggestions

The first thing to do is a factory reset - this will wipe your tuning and schedule, but not the CF or existing recordings (unless you select the HDD format option). The schedule can be restored (after tuning) from the WebIF, either from the daily auto-save or you can be sure by taking a manual backup first.

Menu >> Settings >> Installation >> Factory Default

The next thing to do is go into the Telnet maintenance menu and run a disk check.

IIRC there are 6 remote channels, not three, but the WebIF can tell you which channel you are working on.

Thanks for suggestions.
Factory reset, disk check, fix disk.
Unfortunately problem returned.
Tried all six IIRC channels, none of them worked :-(

I do wonder if there is a connection between IIRC and the physical remote controls not working.

Anyway, any suggestions to help diagnose/resolve the remote control issue?

I am reluctant to remove and re-install all of the custom firmware, but it is the only thing I can think of.

Enable IR debugging by running the ir3/debugon diagnostic and then restarting. You will then get IR-related messages in the humaxtv.log log file that should help diagnosis. See what you get in there when using the real remote control and when trying to inject commands through the web interface.

I have tried running ir3/debugon diagnostic twice, and have been accessing the humaxtv.log file via the diagnostics webif screen. But can not see any IR-related messages :-(

@Rugby Tank - if you have changed the remote control code on the handset you must have used the procedure described here. If you do this (press and hold 0 and OK) with the remote directed at the HDR-FOX and the TV on with the correct TV input selected, you will get an on-screen message telling you which mode the box is in, regardless of which mode the handset is in. If you then select a number (1-6), the mode of both the handset and box will be changed and this will be confirmed by an on-screen message. If you don't get the on-screen messages while doing this there might be a hardware issue with the remote control or the HDR-FOX itself. You can test the remote control handset with a digital camera or camera phone. It you view the IR emitter on camera and press a button on the remote control, you should see it light up.
The IR custom firmware package uses WiFi so it might work even if you cannot get the actual remote to work. Try this: uninstall the IR package and reboot. Install the IR package again and reboot. Check the mode through Web-If and test. If it doesn't work, change mode, reboot and try again until you have tested all six modes. Reboot the HDR-FOX each time you change the mode of the IR package.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Remote control code:
I have two HDR-FOX boxes (one in the kitchen, the other in the lounge) and a Harmony 525 remote control.
None of the remote controls can bring up the the on-screen message on the Kitchen HDR-FOX.
I can get it displayed on the Lounge HDR-FOX which is in mode 1.
The Lounge remote control works with the kitchen HDR-FOX, when it responds to remote controls, so I assume it is also in default mode 1.

I uninstalled ir and rebooted.
When I re-installed ir I got the following message. Unfortunately, the webif remote control still doesn't work.

>>> opkg install ir

That looks to me like remnants of a previous installation of the IR package are preventing it from being reinstalled. I would probably delete the folder '/mod/boot/2/' (you should be able to do this in Web-IF>Browse Media Files by clicking on the first '/' in the directory path and opening the 'mod' folder) any try again. I'm not sure if deleting this file will have any unwanted side-effects so you are probably best to wait for others to comment before trying it.

Can you run the 'general' diagnostic and post the results?
Once ir is working, it can be used to force the IR mode on the box which might resolve this.
