Removing Mongoose?

Web interface version: 1.2.0-6
Custom firmware version: 3.00 (build 2137)
Humax Version: 1.03.12 (kernel HDR_CFW_3.00)

I know that lighttpd has replaced mongoose in the CFW so I thought I'd remove it but couldn't as it said
">>> opkg remove mongoose
No packages removed.
Collected errors:
* print_dependents_warning: Package mongoose is depended upon by packages:
* print_dependents_warning: webif
* print_dependents_warning: These might cease to work if package mongoose is removed.
* print_dependents_warning: Force removal of this package with --force-depends.
* print_dependents_warning: Force removal of this package and its dependents
* print_dependents_warning: with --force-removal-of-dependent-packages."

Selecting info gives
">>> opkg whatdepends mongoose
Root set:
mongoose
What depends on root set
webif 1.2.0-6 depends on mongoose
auto-update 2.0.0 depends on webif (>= 1.0.8-2)

Selecting info for lighttpd gives the same result.

Following one thread I telneted to the box and confirmed the mongoose wasn't running.

I did a search about removing mongoose but couldn't find anything.

Obviously the system is quite happy with mongoose still there but are there any advantages to removing it and if so, how?

Thanks in advance.

I think af123 will do something to get rid of it when support for CF 2.xx versions goes away at the end of March.
Until then you are probably best to leave it alone.

Mongoose is no longer required but it can't yet be removed as it will break certain old custom firmware versions. As prpr says, once CFW 2.xx hits the end-of-updates date at the end of March, I will remove it from the web interface dependencies list.
