Replacement remote

Thanks Luke - that's much more convenient with that remote.

I second /df's comments - especially for those designed to look identical.
(Not that amazon will ever do anything about it - the entire online
world needs a seriously deep kicking up the rear end for so many issues.)

On the other hand the feature is a little obscure and easy for a
manufacturer to overlook so even many users wouldn't even know it existed.

definitely raise a "not as described" dispute, if only to keep sellers straight, since
Good luck with that, 6 weeks ago I reported this item to ebay, it bears no resemblance to anything ever made by Henry Howell and not made of the materials he used, the company was only trading in the 1920's - 1930's and a very small number of his products were sold for a short time through Dunhill. I told ebay this and gave them a link to a YZbird site where everything I said could be confirmed. The item looks like half of a pair of bookends and would be lucky to fetch a £5 and obviously the description was to deceive someone into paying a premium price for a junk item. After a month I had no reply from ebay so asked them why and were they content to be complicit in the sellers deceit, I got a reply within an hour saying that they had someone look into the matter and the description did not breach any of their rules. I appealed that and have heard nothing back from them since. I also contacted the seller.......................................

What makes you assume this might be a Henry Howell Dunhill YZ Duck Bird?

Hi, thank you for your interest. It certainly has the aesthetic. My thoughts were Henry Howell when I first saw this.

Sorry but it certainly does not, Henry Howell YZ products were usually made from Ebony, coquilla or tagua nuts and bakerlite, none of those materials seem to be in your item. As for the Dunhill assumption you cannot even claim that on a genuine YZ bird without clear proof it was marketed by Dunhill as very few of Henry Howells items were sold under Dunhill. Your item does not bear any resemblance to anything ever made by Henry Howell I suggest you visit this site to see how wrong you are and change your description as people may start to assume you are trying to deceive people into thinking a mundane item is worth far more than it's true value.
( It seems links not allowed here so just google The YZ site and it should be the first suggestion in the list).

.................................... They did not reply but I now see that "Style" has been added to the description to cover their ass.

Can anyone recommend a decent remote for the HDR-Fox T2
I have one cheap one here but its hard work (no OPT button)
None of them seem able to switch codes that I can find.
I'd rather not pay the Humax price ( I'd prefer the asda price !)
but need the channel swap facility.
thanks

Sorry about that. I was going to post that there are now RM-F04 available remotes that are the same size and feel as the original. Unfortunately the ones I bought (They were so good I bought several) are no longer in stock. As expected they one operate as Remote 1. If I find another supplier I'll post it. I am going to try and fix an original remote by replacing the soft key insert from the cheap replacement

Found one, it's 23.5 cm long, same size as original remote. I've bought one to try.
I'd post an external link, if I was allowed.
It's this one on Amazon for £7.49, only 13 left.

RM-F04 Replacement Remote Control for Humax Digital TV Recorder TN5000HD TN5050DR TN5000 HD-FOXT2 HDR-FOXT2 HD-FOX-T2 HDR-FOX-T2
Brand: MOVHEIY

PS. There are lots of horrible 21.5 cm remotes available, with with odd OPT+ dual keys. I had one that now the "OK" doesn't work and the paddle ring cuts into your thumb

I have a 3rd party remote that is almost identical in terms of button layout, except that it has a "schedule" button where "OPT+" should be. The schedule button doesn't appear to do anything and it would be nice to be able to map OPT+ to it in the IR package. Is that possible for a button not normally supported by the Humax? If so, is there any way I can find out the code it uses so that I can replace it in the ir3.map file?

Read the ir thread, and/or the information in the wiki. Index of Package Primary Topics | Wiki
Ah, thanks. Run the ir3/debugon diagnostic, then check the humaxtv.log file for the codes received. In my case the schedule button was 6d. I've remapped it to OPT+ and it's like having my old remote control back!

Even after all these years, I'm still finding more useful things the custom firmware and it's packages can do. Thanks so much to all involved in making it!

Managed to dismantle donor replacement remote from Ebay and used it to fix my original defective Humax remote.
Soft keys fit in original remote case and work with original PCB
Keys are not as high as original but they all work now
