Replacing 1800T HDD, two questions...

I disconnected the HDD and plugged in my "Blue Light of death" 1800T 500GB.

It worked!
The red light reappeared, it responded to the remote, the tuner worked, TV received pictures.
I then unplugged it, reconnected the HDD, plugged it back in - return of the "blue light of death".

So yes, the Western Digital 500GB HDD is the thing to blame.

I am now tempted to source a larger, replacement HDD...
I am thinking of unbolting that 'black sled' holding the HDD, take it to a 'Global Links' shop and see if they can sell me something that will fit and use the same cabling.

1. Is there any reason not to try and do that?
2. What should I ask for if I do try that?

Almost exactly. https://hummy.tv/forum/posts/186895
