[RS] advanced rules problem

I've spent a long time today trying to get my head round writing advanced rules in RS.

My rule for finding and recording Formula 1 broadcasts looks like

or {title *F1* title {*Formula 1*} title {*Formula one*} synopsis *F1* synopsis {*Formula 1*} synopsis {*Formula one*} } or {lcn 104 lcn 109 lcn 101 lcn 102 } !synopsis *gillette* !title {*mobil 1*} action scheduleevents

and if I click on the 'Matching Events' button I can see that it finds all of the broadcasts I want it to find. However, it's not scheduling any on the box.

Anyone any idea on what the problem might be?

I set this up as a test to see what happened (removed LCNs apart from 104).
I got this email (although 6 of 9 items are now in the past):

Nothing mentioned in the email is in the schedule, so something's broken.
These 3 events are not the same 3 that you'd expect from the 9 above, but rather just the first 3. This explains why they can't be found, as they are in the past, but why aren't there another 6 entries in the log?

May or may not be relevant but I found that Channel 4 HD was not showing in the RS epg yesterday...
However when I scheduled the qualifying for the Grand Prix in Japan next Saturday on WebIf it appeared in the RS schedule okay

C4 HD was showing here yesterday so I don't think that the problem lies there.

I hadn't realised that Rs only runs at 09:00 each day and had disabled the advanced searches overnight in favour of some standard searches which I had reinstated. I've reversed that now and will see what happens.

Both standard and advanced automatic scheduling is only run once a day which is normally OK since it will add items to the schedule a week ahead of the event. It is only something you need to be aware of when adding new rules or late additions to the schedule.
For items that are already in the near future it is best to add them to the recording schedule from the epg and not depend on the auto scheduling.

Now might be a good time to remind af123 of your other thread and that you can't currently create reminder events via auto scheduling

If it helps in tracking down the problem, this advanced rule worked overnight:
or {lcn 101 lcn 102 } title {*the apprentice*} action scheduleevents
but
or {title *F1* title {*Formula 1*} title {*Formula one*} synopsis *F1* synopsis {*Formula 1*} synopsis {*Formula one*} } or {lcn 104 lcn 109 lcn 101 lcn 102 } !synopsis *gillette* !title {*mobil 1*} action scheduleevents
failed again.

Last night's log says that the events were found but had already been processed in the past. That's based on the CRIDs assigned by the broadcaster. Did you get email from the overnight processing?

You can reset the previous matches using the buttons alongside the rule.

Thanks, I got the overnight email and it confirmed that the 'The Apprentice' had been set. There was no mention of the Formula One broadcasts but that may have been down to them having previously been set: I had cancelled the recordings to check if the advanced rule would set them.

I wasn't aware of the need to reset the matches so I've done that now and will see what happens overnight.

And... have you had any thoughts on my enquiry on 'the other thread'?

I reset both the F1 advanced search and The Apprentice.

I have received an email to say The Apprentice has been set but nothing regarding F1. Hope that helps.

Can you post your box identifier so I can look in the logs? It's shown on the Settings page as Unique Identifier.

Help with a different problem please...

I'm not sure that
or {title *BTTC* title {*British Touring Car*} synopsis *BTTC* synopsis {*British Touring Car*} } or {lcn 103 lcn 24 } day Sunday action scheduleevents
will do what I want it to do.

My intention is to find and schedule only recordings that are
on channel 103
or
on channel 24 and only on a Sunday.

Will it?

The way I read it in the Advanced Rules display is that it will match
channel 103
or
channel 24
or
Sunday

You read it wrong then. It quite clearly says "and" on the left hand side, so it will do what you want.

I read it as
if it was channel 103 or 24
and
Sunday
then it would match.

Perhaps the indent on the Sunday line indicates that the 'and' on that line is attached only to the channel 24 line and not the channel 103 line as well?

Right. You need:

or {title *BTTC* title {*British Touring Car*} synopsis *BTTC* synopsis {*British Touring Car*} } or {lcn 103 and {lcn 24 day Sunday } } action scheduleevents

which looks like this:
