Sagemcom BT/EE TV Box Pro

If you "record" from a catch-up or IP service and get an entry in your recordings list, are you sure it really is a recording and not a "bookmark" for fetching from the server when you play it?

Disconnect the network before trying to play it and find out.

If you have selected the Catch-up app from the menu - you cannot record anything.

If you record something that will be broadcast in the next seven days or is currently being broadcast from the guide, for example BBC, ITV, CH4 and CH5 which ALL have catch-up apps then it is definitely recorded to HDD - all as you would expect from a Freeview recording box? You can skip ads when you plat the recording.

The only time this varies is if you select a current, part way through program from the guide, then as soon as the picture appears on screen you are given some options under the brief progress bar one of which is "Restart" which will then call the appropriate streaming app/service and display (not record) the program in it's entirety. To get this option you must have selected the program from the Guide - if you use the program up/down buttons from whatever you are watching then the restart option does not appear! If you just press record on a partway through program in the guide then all you get on your HDD is the remainder of the program.

Please note this all applies ONLY IF you have chosen dual mode with internet AND aerial feeds.

The scenario you suggest applies IF you don't have an aerial connected - if I understood your question correctly?

Yes, I am afraid it is closed ranks with all the providers - you will watch adverts unless you pay each of us a subscription! Exactly why they want Freely and no recording capabilities.

I had a BT/EE TV subscription which ended in November I did not renew and tried a Manhattan T4-R which seemed OK although only twin recording available but I just could not get a decent PQ from it so it was returned. I resurrected my HDR Fox T2 and updated it with custom firmware as well as my firing up my original Aura. All went well for a few weeks but the the HDR T2 started playing up closely followed by the Aura up to its usual tricks - Unable to play due to HDCP bla bla and locking up etc.!

Solution, I bought a BT TV Box Pro, capable of up to 4 simultaneous recordings, Netflix, Prime, YouTube plus all the usual suspects, all working and with the same innards as the EE TV Box Pro I had on contract for the previous 2 years but the BT version looks nicer I think. Brand new from a private seller, updated itself twice when connected, £85 so hopefully my needs are fulfilled for a while!

When terrestrial is eventually shut down I think there might be a developing market for HDMI recording capabilities linked with a couple of Aero's for example. Might be a problem scheduling the recordings but I am sure that could be overcome! Of course, it might be illegal as well :o_O:
I bought an EE Box pro from EBay - about £65. Wow - it works like a dream! After all the bollox I’ve had with the various Humaxes and Manhattans this is my dream machine. I bought two in fact, with the intention of putting a 2TB hard drive in one. I might give one to my mother if it continues being A Star. It’s very reliable, so responsive and SO user friendly. It’s in another league to the others.
I just hope it doesn’t get cut off by EE.

No, it’s just a great simple PVR, nothing more, nothing less.

It does have a great App though that has better functionality than the Aura App.

I don’t use an app, I am just enjoying the TV guide being instantly complete, all my recordings working (4 simultaneously without issues), lovely skip forward and back, a great search function (though it doesn’t seem to search your recordings - my one negative for this box), and seemingly a better aerial reception than all my other boxes had. I’ve only had it a week or so and have had nothing but great functionality from it.

So can you use the EE TV Box Pro without an EE Broadband connection or subscription?
Yes you can, I happen to have EE broadband, but without the TV subscription.

Just make sure you connect the aerial lead, before you power on the box for the first time, otherwise it will only tune into the internet channels (without subscription) and that restricts its recording ability. The only way to then get TV via the aerial is to reset the box. This was clearly explained in a great crib sheet from the supplier of the box.
