sick box

hi,

I'm having a few issues with my box being a bit unstable.

After each crash there's a warning saying some package may have been disabled but I've never found further details.

Anyway, BBC redbutton is no longer working. The screen icon is not shown and pressing red has no effect. Anyone seen that before.

Would the recommendation be to 'Remove CFW & settings from diag and apply 1.03.12?

I haven't upgraded to 3.00 because there was an early issue with wireless locking the box (now fixed).
I subsequently read that the current CFW should be removed prior to uploading the latest but that's not mentioned on the install instructions and I've never done it before...

thanks for all your efforts with CFW,
Adrian

thanks Chris, I didn't think the two were connected but you never know. No RB on SD either, only really bothered me during the CW Games. Strange.
cheers

This is a protection mechanism to circumvent the possibility that an element of the custom firmware caused the crash. Go to WebIF >> Diagnostics and run the diagnostic fix-flash-packages to re-enable them.

Why?

Err... where did you read this? It used to be the case that if you wanted to apply a version of the custom firmware that was intended for a different version of the standard firmware than the one that was installed, it was necessary to update the standard firmware first. That it removed the CF was a side effect. More recent CFs included standard firmware updates, and the latest CF (version 3 onwards) includes the whole standard firmware - so one update does the lot.

Does it not concern you that your box seems to crash so often?

Do you have the BBC Red Button service tuned in? You need LCNs 200, 301, 302.

wicked, I'll do that.

because I read somewhere on the forum about removing CFW prior to updating. Must have been an old post.

Yes, it does. What are your suggestions to diagnose?

cheers,
Adrian
