Sound cutting out

Evening all.

I've searched the forums and online and am aware of a patch that's available to resolve a wider issue, but does anyone else have any issues with the sound cutting out randomly for about 0.5s frequently, but not at consistent intervals?

I've factory reset the box multiple times, including via the Android recovery screen (press and hold the power button for 15s while powering on) with no fix. Recent last resort was to completely format the hard drive and guess what? Didn't fix the issue.

Really am at my whits end with this thing and despite some help from Humax and an initial offer to repair it despite being nearly five years old, because I took the drive out (initially to scan it for errors then subsequently to backup the recordings) they subsequently said no.

I also just bought the Manhattan T4-R as a replacement but the HD picture quality is awful in comparison plus it has a bizarre and off putting motion blur issue, so that'll be going back soon.

The box details and software versions are as follows:

Model - FVP-4KGTR
Application Version - 1.01_101_240513_0ee68d5a7
Firmware version - 00.09.21
Update Date - May 16, 2024 07:59:40 am
Version - 9
Android security patch level - 5 April 2021
Kernel version - 4.9.189-1-12pre #33 Mon May 31 14:19:52 KST 2022
Build - PTT1. 190528.001
1.3TB internal storage available (HDD)
8.4GB internal shared storage (device)
Freeview system app version - 1.00_67_250320_ec44a7d27

Any information on fixing it would be very much appreciated - I can handle the random reboots, and some of the apps not working (Amazon Prime Video being particularly unusable, and VLC needing the box being restarted from time to time) but the sound is so disruptive it's becoming unusable.

Thank you.

Wits end...

Since you haven't mentioned in your post have you changed the HDMI cable or or made sure the cables connections to the Aura and the TV
are secure. And dare I ask is there no problem with sound watching via the TVs own tuner.

Sorry yes, did the basic self diagnostic tests...

1) tried re-seating all connections
2) tried different cables
3) tried using the optical sound lead directly
4) no sound issues whatsoever either using the TV directly or the Manhattan box
5) sound issue exhibits whilst streaming (iplayer etc) and whilst playing recordings

Everything points to a software issue despite factory resetting.

Thanks.

There were many comments about the poor picture quality for the earlier T4-R software versions prior to December 2024. When they improved the SD quality Manhattan also claimed some improvement to the HD channels.

Which version is yours using?

https://manhattan-tv.com/support/manhattan-t4r/software-updates

Hardware v1.00
Software v2.12
Loader v1.03
Upgrader v1.04

Just tried checking for a software update again and no new update found.

Thanks.

If all you want is a Freeview HD PVR and can run streaming services elsewhere, there are plenty of second hand Humax PVRs on ebay which have good HD picture quality. Personally I recommend the HDR Fox T2 due to the custom firmware (see other threads on hummy.tv) and because of other features it has that have been removed from newer boxes, like storing recordings for a series in an actual folder.

Thanks - I already have a previous Humax PVR (T1800T) and prefer something like the Aura, that's integrated with live and streaming services in one convenient place.

Unfortunately all devices that do that appear to be rubbish, or support live only as a streaming service and hence force adverts.
