With (apparently) no restrictions on new users, I'm amazed how little we actually see - I guess the mods get to them first, but that leaves a remarkably short window of opportunity (for the mods).
On a forum I am responsible for, I have only been able to control spam by making all new members subject to approval before their posts are publicly visible.
