Struggling with HDD format message

If you can't wait for further opinions, I suggest a factory reset to clear out any database errors that might be causing corruption of that partition. If that doesn't help, I'm thinking the HDD is showing signs of imminent failure.

Regarding factory reset, I wrote up details only today - see HERE (click).

Then take it from the top.

I'd suggest another maintenance mode disk check. It may show something up. There are other things we can try too if necessary. From what you posted it doesn't look like a typical disk hardware failure although it could just be a failure mode we haven't seen before.

Posted on the move; please excuse any brevity.

Wow, that's a new one. What in the world does this mean? Or did you just make it up?
What sort of database error can corrupt a partition and how would resetting to defaults fix it?

So you know exactly how the humaxtv process controls the accesses to the TSR circular buffer then, for example? No?? Thought not.

I don't either, but there must be some parameters stored somewhere, and ditto for other data structures. A non-destructive baseline reset seems like a good starting point.

Hi,
Decided to send the box back to amazon and probably better to remove the CFW before.
Tried using the diag option and "remove_mod_yes_i_am_sure". didn't work ... this is what I get:
Code:
Press return to continue:

Note: Some areas of the hard disk are not mounted.
Not all functions will be available.

1 - Restart into maintenance mode.
2 - Remove web interface password.
stat - Show what the box is currently doing.
x - Exit and close connection.
 diag - Run a diagnostic.
cli - System command line (advanced users).

Please select option: diag

Enter the diagnostic name (or press return to cancel): remove_mod_yes_i_am_sure

That's an old method that won't work properly.
Restart the box into maintenance mode then you should get a menu option for return to manufacturer.
Once you've selected that, restart and check that the front panel says "RMA" then install the official firmware.

I just checked (HDR3: 1.02.32/2.15) and get the same.

What did you expect of remove_mod_yes_i_am_sure? It will not remove the Telnet stuff - you have to reinstall the standard firmware over the top to get rid of that. The preparation clears the custom stuff from the hard drive only, so Telnet will work but the web interface should only bring up the web installer page.

From the Telnet prompt try: diag remove_mod_yes_i_am_sure &
See this conversation:

Then install standard firmware and you're done.

For reference, did you try a factory reset and disk fix?

Incidentally, while in Maintenance Mode my HDR was unresponsive to RC or front panel "off" commands, I had to restart through Telnet. Is that expected?

Apologies, I was thinking of the Reset RMA option which only appears if you're already in RMA mode.
Try running the setrma diagnostic from either mode.

#31 wasn't a criticism or a snipe, I was pointing out that Sjburt had already done what you had suggested
In #33 weren't you telling the readers that your suggestion might not apply?
Over to you for the last word as usual . . .
