T2 started emitting high pitch whine

Past few days the Humax has started to emit a low volume, very high pitch whine. Hard to hear but once you've heard it you can't stop. Bit like a gas leak noise.

Does it constantly even in standby.. so I'm thinking maybe the fan (I'm assuming the fan is on all the time) not the HDD (I'm assuming the HDD doesn't spin in standby when the unit is not recording?)

I'll open her up and take a look when I get a chance. Just wondered if anyone has experienced similar?

The fan is not on all the time. With default Humax firmware the fan only comes on when the box gets very hot. You can use the "fan" custom firmware package to run the fan all the time at a configured speed, but even that does not run the fan in standby.

If this happens in standby, it is neither the fan nor the hard disc.

This sounds like the power supply may be dying. The switching part can produce some strange noises when certain components die, causing the switching circuits to produce sounds in the audible region.

Some switched mode power supplies produce very high pitched whining noises that annoy me even when they are working as expected. No-one else I know can hear them, yet all my hearing above 11kHz is gone. It's odd.
