Just wanted to say a big thanks to those responsible for writing the custom firmware (af123?) and let you know how much it's appreciated. It's an amazing resource, and for something that I assume has been created in spare time, very professionally approached.
I have just changed my failing disk for a 2TB drive, the firmware made that a very easy task indeed; and it let me verify that the original disk was failing in the first place, and allowed me to verify that the fan was working properly and controlling the temperature (I'd had my doubts).
