The Aura Android update.

It is fast approaching a year since the major Android/fixes update was first mentioned by Humax. A few weeks ago a not too believable member with a track record of distorting the truth on the other site who has claimed to have high level contacts at Humax including the head honcho said they were told it was being Beta tested but not a single person including Barry has confirmed this to be true so I emailed a guy at Humax who had helped me in the past and had always been honest with his replies rather than fobbing me off from a crib sheet. He is supposed to be a step up from the basic minions at customer support, this was his reply today with no mention of Beta testing so it is not looking hopeful for anything soon or maybe ever.

Thank you for contacting Humax.
Unfortunately, we have no new/updated information about the release of the major Android update for the Aura that was mentioned to us.
I have escalated this to see if there are any updates; however, no specific date was mentioned to us, still.
This means that it is still being worked on by our software development team.
As soon as there is new information, I am sure that our headquarters will let us know about it, but until then, we are also still waiting for more updates regarding the matter.

Are you aware that previous Humax beta tests have required the people doing the tests to remain silent?

I wonder if it will come out at the same time as the Freely PVR?
It was claimed on the other site that some people there were beta testing the update weeks ago but not a single person has admitted to being a tester let alone commented of the update. I would not be at all surprised if it never happens and Humax use the flakiness of the Aura as a way to push people into buying the new FHR-6000T Freely Recorder which may turn out to be just a flaky. It just seems very suspect that an update which Humax said was coming in a few weeks a year ago has been constantly pushed back without any explanation or even a part update offered.

You just pipped me to the post :). I was not aware of that but how long did previous Beta testing take before an update was issued? Also why has it taken nearly a year before beta testing was even mentioned?

It varied a bit but was usually within a month of the end of the beta test.

I don't know. A guess would be that it took Humax much longer than they expected to produce software that was deemed worth beta testing.

I missed that.

I won’t be rushing to update even if it does materialize. I’m going to wait and see how many new bugs it introduces before taking the plunge.

Hello all.
Today's email brought this in response to a support request...
"I recommend waiting for the upcoming software update.
We are expecting a major software update for the Humax Aura recorder by the end of this year.
Upgrading from Android 9 to Android 14.
This is intended to improve the overall performance of the device and possibly resolve the issue we are seeing on the device."
Cheers,

Well that’s the first piece of proper info I’ve seen, Android 14.

I wonder if the Freely box coming out in December (if the leak is correct) and an Aura update in December are related?

As it is now known to be called the Aura EZ 4K Freely Recorder if both claims are correct it could suggest that the new box is nothing more than an Aura with Freely added to it using the same old Aura software just with the need to update Android as they would not have got away with using an old version on the new box and that update can then be easily applied to existing Aura boxes, it would also explain why the update has taken over a year since being first mentioned.
