The Aura Android update.

I know it's for clearing bloatware/adware off Smart TVs, but the Aura is Android TV-based, and I wonder if this would go some way towards making a custom ROM, or at least improving the box in some way in light of Humax's total lack of bug fixes and support?
Humax have a lot of bug fixes. The problem is that for some reason they haven't yet released them.

Do you mean an Aura Firmware update or just an Android sytem update for your phone?
This would appear to be a very important question?

The underlying Android operating system and the Humax recording and playback firmware are two separate things that could be updated separately.

What appears to have been released is an update to the Android level while many posters are assuming it is also the long overdue Humax firmware update.

Can anyone confirm whether it is:
  • Update to Android operating system only,
  • Update to Humax firmware (what is new level number)
  • Both

I refer you to the link I posted where it is clearly stated that it is an update for the Aura and NOT the phone to Android 14 along with other bug fixes and features but Humax has not listed what they are yet. Would it not need an updated firmware to work with Android 14 ?

I've got the update and from the limited info provided it clearly says it's an update to Android TV 14. I noticed it in some unread messages on the android home menu. I applied it without hesitation as I figured it could not be any worse than the current system software. I only use this as a pvr, nothing fancy and after a couple of days it's been stable. The system does seem more responsive but time will tell. I'm based in the Hampshire region. 🤞

One other thing, I had suffered login problems from the aura Android app on the last few days - did not recognise login credentials. These problems seem to have gone away since the update. Could be a fluke but worth mentioning.

If the firmware is the same as the firmware I have been testing then it is both.

Why are mentioning "the phone" above? There's no phone in the Aura.

Because some (misguided) people think Android = Phone, and only Phone.
At my previous employer I worked on police radios that run Android. There are plenty of TVs that run Android. It's an operating system, biased towards certain things, but at the end of the day it's an OS.
