While retuning the main HDR and TV I noticed the noticed the signal levels were a bit low and not the same across the channels.
After checking and messing around including pulling the side off the tuner (it's a single one) and re-soldering the RF In connection to the tuner PCB, I changed tack and swapped the HDD into a spare HDR.
It has all the signs of a bad connection in the RF Input as moving it around changed the signal level and caused blockiness but it wasn't that consistent. It looks like there's an internal joint between the inner/female part of the connector and the tail that's soldered to the tuner PCB so replacing it with hard-wired bit of co-ax with a flying connector has gone on the do sometime list.
Does this fault fit with symptoms others have had?
FWIW the custom firmware carried over as I understood it would be and the recordings are auto-decrypted. Needed a schedule restore of course and a static network address on the router. There is one funny but it belongs in the custom f/w forum.
