tv portal

i've been using the portal more lately (due to lack of anything decent on freeview)

what is really starting to bug me though, is how long it takes to populate

what is the reason, is it the software, the server or something else

I presume you're referring to BBC iPlayer? It could be affected by your internet connection speed. The web page isn't as quick to load as it is on a PC but then I wouldn't expect it to be because the HDR probably doesn't have the processing power of a modern PC.

its not the connection,no problem with the pc. i would hope its not the hardware, if it is humax would have been better not having the portal, full stop.

im hoping its either software or server, that will mean there is room for improvement

It's not just you. I'm on 50mb cable, and it's slowish for me too.
Playing video is fine, it's just the interface is slow to load and slow to navigate.
Hopefully this is Mark 1 of the portal and will be improved.

I think there is some sort of issue behind the scenes though as it's still AWOL from the HD-T2 and they are also loosing their Chief Technologist.. I'm not saying the two are connected, but Bobs upcoming departure may delay things even further.

Its just been prepped ready for action by Humax's marketing dept.. i wouldnt get too excited yet..
There is obviously a lack of communication at Humax HQ. Shocker, i know.

have spoken to other people who have tv portals and where slow to populate, on different systems, and i was told it was to do with the servers.

i just hope its not the hardware (fingers crossed)

With population yes this can be put down to slow or speed capped servers, with laggy user interfaces though, it's either the code or the hardware.

i use nevermisstv on the pc, it would be nice to have something similar on the portal (i like the user interface)
