Unit finds no channels at all

I have a unit which refuses to retune. Others in the same position (coax and power) tune fine. Can I assume it is "dead forever" (it plays ok)? I have tried a factory reset and no joy. I take it there are no replaceable components I could try swapping - I don't mind trying (nothing lost if it fails).

You don't know where the problem actually is. The tuner cans are a pig to source and replace, but might not be responsible. You could try a hot air gun to reflow a potentially cracked solder joint, but IMO you would be better off sourcing another HDR-FOX on the second hand market.

Basic one... but have you visually checked the TV signal IN socket?

Yes ... and what's more before I did a factory reset it had displayed a channel ok :-{

Worth looking, I have had a broken socket, but hard to do anything about!

thinking about it, it is open ATM. I'll do some continuity tests with a wiggle ... if I can find something to test

Grounds show good continuity and no evidence of wigglability so I think it will be binned ^H^H^H^H^H^Hrecycled.
Anything worth keeping for spares - PSU, USB I/F?

It would be interesting to have a look and trace what goes where around the main board - e.g. 'ball' pads from the Broadcom SoC that may be presented (accessible) to other places on the board. e.g. the third USB "port".

sorry - the main board went into "small electricals" at the recycling centre today :-(
