Unwatched flag on external content

Is it possible to set unwatched flags on files on my external hdd?
As I understand it, the Humax uses the HMT file to decide what is watched or not, but these files do not exist for non-ts files. The only thing created is the HMI file which is a stripped down version of the HMT file.
I thought I could possibly create some kind of HMT file for each video, but this seems laborious.
 
You can only have a .hmt file for a .ts. The Humax won't look for one for any other video file.
 
Thanks, tis what I hoped (well it's not, but if it was possible I thought I could have found a link to if it did!)
