usb upgrade problems

bought a t2 for my dad, got it sent here so i could update firmware and stick some recordings of old railway progs i'd sorted out for him

the firmware is the original 1.04, dl'd the latest and copied it to my trusty usb stick, switched machine off at back and inserted usb, switched back on and the update didnt happen, recognised the usb and video files that were on it. are you supposed to be able to see the hdf file via media??
tried 3 or 4 times, same result, re formatted the usb, its def fat32, have used exact same one before

re extracted the firmware, confirmed that its called what it should be and it def in the root

odd, is it because i'm going from vanilla to the new one?

ota on weds i see anyway

forget it, all sorted now, think i didnt get it exactly right

need to put machine in standby
switch off at back
insert usb
switch on at back

other reason could be that i had only scanned the hd channels when i first tried, then i factory defaulted, scanned completely and then did above

didnt want to scan fully as dad lives in devon!

No need to actually switch off, standby is fine, switch on from either the front or the zapper. You can also put the stick in either port.
