WebIF - download facility

Just a little more info on my problem:

I have duplicated the problem in IE 8 (always use Firefox as a rule)

After selecting the paste button the windows grays and becomes transparent. In the middle I see 'Pasting from clipboard....' One sec or less and the window returns to the parent folder where the file was cut to the clipboard. The clipboard is empty and the files remains where it was. No file in the new Drive1/test folder.

Try copy. We would expect the cut-n-paste (ie move) operation to be fast on one partition, because all it has to do is adjust the pointers. I'm guessing that the move operation doesn't work off-drive. The copy operation, as I have demonstrated and is now verified, seems to be limited at 2GB.

Done:

Exactly as previously but copy this time. Result:

Warning 'Are you sure copying recordings takes a long time' - select 'ok' (no indication that it is copying)

Navigate to Media/Drive1/test (parent dir visible)

Select paste

Same grey transparent window with 'Pasting etc' in the centre

Window returns to Media/Drive1/test

File not copied in test folder.

As there is no indication that a copy is being made to the clipboard there is no way of knowing how long to wait.

If you think I should give it an hour I will, but I think there are other things which need a solution.

It does not make a copy TO the clipboard, it only makes a note of the file you wish to copy or move. The actual copy is done when you paste. However, it still doesn't seem to be working for you, I don't know what the trouble is.

I'm aware of the 2GB limit when copying to an external disk and am still investigating that one...

Can you try copying something to the clipboard then going directly to the clipboard URL in your browser by typing this into the address bar:

http://<ip or name of humax>/browse/clipboard.jim

That should show you the contents of your clipboard.

Now try pasting it to the test directory by changing the URL to:

http://<ip or name of humax>/cgi-bin/browse/clipboard.jim?act=paste&dir=/media/drive1/test

and report what it says. I've used lower case for /media/drive1 which I believe should be right although your post has them capitalised - use whatever matches your setup.

http://192.168.1.11/browse/clipboard.jim

Result =
Error 404: Not Found
File not found

http://192.168.1.11/cgi-bin/browse/clipboard.jim?act=paste&dir=/media/drive1/test

After ignoring above and pasting (using above url), result = Pasting Eternal Law_20120119_2102.ts

For convenience I was using a separate browser for the results.
As far as I am aware capitals or lower case are treated the same in urls.

Changing the url:

http://192.168.1.11/browse/clipboard.jim

to:

http://192.168.1.11/cgi-bin/browse/clipboard.jim

gives:

page_white_copy.png
Eternal Law_20120119_21...
Together with a button to empty the clipboard.

But the red X is not as large!

Checking the contents of /media/drive1/test via ftp after some 10 minutes show the folder is empty. (of course same result using the remote)

I just had a thought - my drive1 is a 32gb flash drive. Would that make a difference?

Sorry for the incorrect URLs.
If you're happy typing things at the command line, I'll post some more things to try later. I don't know what's going wrong for you yet, but we'll get there!

No, that isn't correct in the general case. The hostname part is case insensitive but the path and query part aren't except in some situations where the server uses a case-insensitive filesystem (I.e. windows and MacOSX).

Ah, my experience is only of Windows.

Yes command line is ok for me.

I have done quite a bit of checking and resetting on the network and lappy. I now find that the copy to media/drive1/test works correctly. It also works on drive2 :)

Don't ask me what the problem was because I have no idea as I found nothing wrong. However, something was, obviously.

I am pleased to say that it also operates correctly using remote webIF which is where I came in :)

I have installed the latest custom software and now find that the copy and cut do no longer work once again when copying/cutting to the media/drive1/test

Also, I now cannot ftp or fxp to media/drive1/test folder..............unless the filename is 8 or less characters. It no longer accepts long filenames. If the file is only say 10 chars it truncates it. If it is the same length as a video ts file it exists with an 'invalid argument error'. (hence why the copy/cut no longer works?)

I can write a long filenamed file to the drive when I plug it into the lappy - only when it is in the humax usb does it not accept long filenames. If I write a long named file to the drive whilst in the laptop it accepts (as it should). When I plug the drive into the humax I can no longer see the file on the drive via webIF it has disappeared.

I can add a new folder to the drive from webIF, providing it has a short name. If I write a long name for the new folder it truncates it.

I think the latest custom software has a problem I seem to have eliminated all possible causes originating from me.
