Webif gone, drive is read only, fixdisc takes forever. Help please.

Hello everybdoy,

I wonder if anybody could advise please. My Humax HDR-FOX T2 has been playing up for a few weeks.

My Webif stopped working, and I am presented with "500 - Internal Server Error".

I tried forcing a reinstall via CLI but no luck. Seemed to be a problem with writing to the disc.

I then tried fixdisc, but it continues for many hours and either seems to freeze or I lose my connection. I have to stop it without knowing if it is finished. I have done this several times.

The folders on the Humax seem to have gone read-only which is why I think I can not reinstall the webif. This also means I can not record to any existing folder, though it usually works to the root video folder. I can not delete anything either.

Could anybody tell me a couple of things please:

1. Once I have lost the telnet connection to my Humax, how once I have reconnected do I find out the status of fixdisc, to see if it finished.

2. How can I fix this problem and get back my webif, and full functionality?

Thank you muchly!!

You should have taken action earlier and maybe things wouldn't have got so bad.

Why do you have to stop it? Freezing is normal. If you have to stop it, it isn't finished. Leave it to run.

It writes a log file either to /tmp/fix-disk.log (until you reboot) or /mnt/hd3/fix-disk.log
I would guess loss of connection makes it terminate though. You could use nohup but it's on the hd2 partition, so you'd need to copy it somewhere else first.
Why are you getting loss of connection?

Depends what the problem is and whether you want to try and preserve any recordings or not. What do "mount" and "smartctl -a /dev/sda" say (just post the Smart Attributes Data table)?

On some occasions because of the sleep function on my server which comes on after 6 hours, and some times I think I probably just assumed it had stopped working, when perhaps it had not. I have turned the sleep fuction off so can try again, but I had read it should only take a few hours for fixdisk to run?

With "mount" I get:

humax# mount

And "smartctl -a /dev/sda": (sorry was not sure which bit you were asking for).

"SMART Attributes Data Structure" and the following 20 or so lines was the bit I meant.
Hard disk looks OK-ish at the moment. Your media partition has gone read-only but the others are OK.
If fix-disk can't fix it, then you'll have to reformat it (and then reinstall Webif).
You might be able to copy stuff off elsewhere if you want your recordings.
