WebIf/RS channel-icons missing

I retuned the relevant MUX on my Sony TV just after 12 o'clock and got BBC ONE Yks HD. I also retuned my Humax shortly after as a trial and got the same. I'll leave my other Humax boxes as they have tunefix-update installed.

The only thing amiss on the Humax is that the WebIF icon is blank for BBC ONE Yks HD. I presume this is because the channel name has changed and no longer points to an existing icon image file.

thought we had the ability for other people to update the custom firmware now?
It's not the firmware. It's an installable package. And I seem to be doing mostly everything.... but not that, as a) I don't have time, and b) I don't know how to generate the images. If someone else can do that, then we can sort getting it released. Anyway, this is not the thread for that discussion.

And I note RS is confused by BBC One Yorkshire HD at my parents, it shows BBC One HD instead in the web pages. It has managed to schedule recordings for my parents on BBC One Yorkshire HD but I had to phone my dad to check it had worked. He's very cross and his main comment is "It was all fine, why can't they just leave things alone that are working? I don't need all this aggravation." and since he's just come out of hospital he has a point.

I do understand, I've been through similar (as you are no doubt aware). One day, this will be us (if not already).

I'm aware of your previous supported user yes Black Hole.

On the plus side, RS has responded and is now showing "BBC ONE Yks HD" both for the recordings set on my parents box and in the Guide. There is no icon for it as expected.

From webif/lib/epg.class, the EPG icon image is <img src="/img/channels/out/$channel_name.png".

Each icon in the out/ directory is a symbolic link to an actual image in ../x/

webif-channelicons has some other directories as well as out/ and x/, but I guess what is needed initially is just to make links for all the regional channels, and also to catch up with the renaming of other channels by adding new icon for each channel to 'x/' and linking it into out/.

Thus:
out/BBC ONE Lon HD.png: link ../x/BBC One HD.png

And the same for whatever the other regionalised channels in West Midlands, East Midlands, Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, East Yorks & Lincs and the Channel Islands are called, eg

out/BBC ONE Yks HD.png: link ../x/BBC One HD.png

For missing icons, there's usually a relevant image on the channel's website that can be cropped and shrunk to a 100x100 PNG.

Looking just at London TV channels, omitting shopping, pseudo-porn and placeholder +1s:

out/ITV1+1.png: link ../x/ITV1 +1.png
out/ITV2+1.png: link ../x/ITV2 +1.png
out/E4 Extra.png: acquire from C4
out/5USA.png: link ../x/5 USA.png
out/5ACTION.png: acquire from C5
out/5SELECT.png: acquire from C5
out/DMAX.png: acquire from Warner Discovery
out/EarthxTV.png: acquire from EarthxTV
out/PBS America.png: acquire from PBS
out/Sky Arts.png: acquire from Sky
out/GREAT! movies.png: acquire from GREAT!
out/GREAT! movies +1.png: acquire from GREAT!
out/GREAT! action.png: acquire from GREAT!
out/GREAT! romance.png: acquire from GREAT!
out/Legend.png: acquire from Legend
out/GREAT! tv.png: acquire from GREAT!
out/W.png: acquire from W
out/RealityXtra.png: acquire from RealityExtra (CBS)
out/TCC.png: acquire from That's TV
out/That's TV (UK).png: acquire from That's TV
out/That's 60s.png: acquire from That's TV
out/That's 80s.png: acquire from That's TV
out/TalkTV.png: acquire from TalkTV
out/GB News.png: acquire from GB News

[Updated list for omitted items, previously updated on my system.]
Anyone who has installed webif-channelicons could perform these changes in /mod/webif/html/img/channels/, check the result, archive the directory as a .tar.gz and offer it for repackaging.

And therein lies the problem, like with all this regionalised information, whether it be network IDs, transport stream IDs, service IDs, names or whatever.
No-one (on the outside) knows what all the names/values are. Unless you have a source in all the relevant areas (or you have a mole on the inside) then it's very difficult to obtain.

I don't think it's quite as simple as that. There is some sort of a mask applied to give it the correct look'n'feel.
I think I vaguely remember af123 mentioning it, but can't remember where/when and a search turns up nothing obvious, but it's one of those where you need to know what the answer is in order to ask the right question.

I believe that ffmpeg can do the image processing if working in a Humax CF shell, although just having an icon at all would be a start.

OT: but the RS login page needs CSS similar to div.login {display: table;} to stop the fields extending outside the whitish background, possibly depending on the browser.

I'd rather use PHP elsewhere than have the hassle of ffmpeg.

I've added links as suggested. Let me know if I've missed any (the data only channels are deliberately ignored).

Yes, I noticed that ages ago. It does depend on the browser. Can't do anything about it.

The BBC ONE Xxx HD EPG channel names are most likely the same as the equivalents on satellite (http://www.tvchannelguide.co.uk/):

London: BBC ONE Lon HD
West Midlands: BBC One WM HD
East Midlands: BBC One E Mid HD
Yorkshire: BBC One Yorks HD
East Yorks & Lincs: BBC One Y&L HD
Channel Islands: BBC One CI HD

If there is a South Yorkshire regional version as in https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/tunefix-update-automated-freeview-channel-updates.6981/post-166879, it isn't listed in advance information.

Next month:

North East & Cumbria: BBC One NE&C HD
North West: BBC One N West HD
West: BBC One West HD
South West: BBC One S West HD
South: BBC One Sth HD
East: BBC One EastHD (sic?)
South East: BBC One S East HD

Maybe a rule is being applied that if the regional string + following space is longer than 4 characters spaces are removed, but then West HD -- or the regional string is abbreviated?:

East Midlands: BBC One EMidHD
Yorkshire: BBC One YorksHD (or BBC One Yks HD ?)
North East & Cumbria: BBC One NE&CHD
North West: BBC One NWestHD
West: BBC One WestHD
South West: BBC One SWestHD
East: BBC One EastHD
South East: BBC One SEastHD

Doesn't RS gather the EPG channel names?

I'm in South Yorkshire with my signal coming from Crosspool, Sheffield and believe the feed comes from Emley Moor.

The StdDef BBC One is labelled 'BBC ONE Yorks' on the Humax's info panel/EPG and 'BBC ONE Yks HD' for the BBC ONE HiDef.

Regional news is Look North and is the Leeds version.

There isn't. It's a 'transmitter region', not a programme region. You get the same programmes from Emley etc. as you do from Crosspool etc. on BBC ONE i.e. Look North from Leeds. East Yorks & Lincs feeds Belmont etc. and gives you Look North from Hull.

It doesn't, but that's just a technicality which makes no difference to you.
