What does it take to make a thread "Trending content"?

The first 2 threads in the list were last posted in many years ago and both do not seem to relate to current issues.

That's something I don't often see. On a phone the Trending content is at the bottom of the (long) page. But you're right, very old threads showing as trending. Something not quite right.
