What later models of Humax use the same file format as the 9200T (for watching old recordings)

Hello,

My 9200T just packed up in the middle of watching something (tripping my electrics at the same time!), and won't power on. My guess is a power supply failure of some kind.

I can extract all my recordings using humaxrw, and I know I can watch them on a PC with VLC, but I'd like to replace the box with a later model and transfer the files onto it for viewing through the TV like normal.

What other Humax models will accept '.ts' files from a 9200T?

Most newer Humax models accept files recorded elsewhere if not encrypted. The user experience will not be the same though. Information about the recording ( time, channel and synopsis) are most likely to be lost.

9200T data was never encrypted, but I know nothing of the file format. Use VLC or MediaInfo (or FFMPEG/FFPROBE) on an existing file and post what the container and stream formats are.

The HDR-Fox T2 with customised firmware and with the hrwconv package can take the output from humaxrw and convert the files to make suitable files for the HDR. This process can take a few hours depending on how many recordings you have but will result in recordings with full trick play and synopsis etc. To get the full synopsis data it is necessary to include the original sidecar files (i.e. do not use humaxrw recovery mode).

That's great, but it would restrict the OP's choice to HDR-FOX and does not fully answer the question. What do we know about the 9200T's files?

I was aware of a PC program (AV2HDR-T2) that can take a .ts and create the sidecar files and the appropriate .ts (m2ts) if the user provides the synopsis. This would then be playable like a native recording on the HDR-Fox T2 and the 1800T/2000T. Whether this would work for this scenario I don't know, which is why I didn't suggest it. Such a conversion would be pointless for later Humaxes (4000T/5000T and Aura).

What do we know about the 9200T's files?

The 9200T .ts file is stored unencrypted and uses 188 byte packets. hrwconv converts it to 192 byte m2ts format using ffmpeg. The CF sidecar package is used to create new .hmt and .nts files from the m2ts file.

The 9200T sidecar files (.epg and .hre) are used by hrwconv to update the channel and synopsis information within the created .hmt file.
I believe the .elu 9200T sidecar file performs a similar function to the HDR .nts file but it is not used in the conversion.

To be honest, I'm not really interested in going through a long translation process to make the files work in a modern machine. You can pick up a second hand 9200T on Ebay for less than £20, which would give me a donor PS board and spare (albeit old and tired) HD.

I already extracted the files from the hard drive using humaxrw, with the additional data (.elu .epg .hre). If there's a later model that I can load all the existing files into using humaxrw that's really all I'm after.

I think most machines are going to play those from a USB stick without much hassle. You probably won't get any nice transport controls though.

You can have one of mine for the cost of the postage if you like, assuming it still works. I think I still have the boxes etc.

Excluding the 9300, no later models use humaxrw. With the T2 you can copy them on to the hard disk via the UI and (if you install the CF) regain full transport controls as xyz321 said. It's fairly painless. I don't know about any other models as I've never had any of them.

With a lot of faff you may be able to use the PC stuff I indicated in post #6 to get them into a "full transport" form for the 1800T/2000T. The 4000T/5000T sidecar files seem to be encrypted, I gave up trying to make sense of them. So full transport unlikely. It may be possible to build a file that could be imported into an Aura and look like a native recording. I can't be bothered as you can play the .ts file using VLC with some rudimentary trick play. (Although the Android version of VLC is cr@p).
As the OP isn't interested in faff, it's either a second hand 9150T/9300T/9200T using humaxrw or just playing the .ts files with no trick play and probably no AD or subtitles - and certainly no synopsis.
