Why no GUI mods ?

But if a GUI change package was available, you would not be forced to install it would you!
I'm all for free choice and don't really see humax doing anything about it after all this time.
I've personally spoken with their chief technologist a good while ago via email, and he said as much but they cannot publicly talk about modding as its got them into bother in the past.
The T2 is at the end of its life now anyway, so it's not like humax are going to be putting out anymore updates apart from minor bug fixes.

I really don't see them (HUMAX) persuing people who have updated and improved the UI, especially if it was only for personal use and wasn't for any financial gain or the creation of a competing product. To a certain degree you could even argue that this forum and the demonstration that tweaks and improvements can be made with custom firmware (unlike some competitors products that don't even allow/provide this option) have helped boost sales of their product. I know I bought it because (with tweaked firmware) it was then able to do most of what I wanted it to do. If there wasn't the option of upgrading the firmware, I most probably wouldn't have purchased it.

I used to work in UI development and unfortunately there are few companies that invest in spending time on UIs, or unfortunately do not employ experienced/specialist people to develop the UI, they leave it to the programmers/developers, worst mistake in my experience. Don't get me wrong I can't do my job without the developers, I'm not a coder, but don't let them do the interface design, as in my experience they find the easier way (usually compromised) to do it, rather than be pushed to take the more complex, but better, way to do it. It's a simple thing to get right and can make a huge difference to user adoption, just look at Apple products.
