Windows Getting Picky About Downloads

Black Hole

May contain traces of nut
I've had a support call from one of my remote users, few details at the moment but getting specific info might be difficult.

She likes to record stuff and squirrel it away, old series and the like (don't ask me why), downloading it to PC using the WebIF OPT+ download operation, then using a video editor to top and tail it and remove adverts, and then saving to MP4 or something. She's currently using Win10/Edge (which I have little knowledge of).

Anyway, new thing today: "my humax is not allowing me to download anything, it says it can't be downloaded securely".

I have replied that that's Edge not the Humax/CF, but nonetheless I'm in the frame to provide a solution.

Anyone seen this? I think Edge has suddenly got picky that the download is being initiated from a http rather than a https, perhaps because Microsoft are always sticking their oar in.

Ideas and comments welcome, but asking her to install a sensible browser (or sensible OS) are no-go areas.

I know we can make SSL connections instead of Telnet, but can the WebIF go https? Is there a setting in Edge to bypass such checks?

It is Edge and they just need to tell Edge to 'keep and keep anyway' the file which will then allow the download to continue. See the screenshots below which you could possible forward to them as they will know what 'buttons to press' when in Edge even if you don't.

Yes, thanks, that's what the document I linked in Post 2 says and what I advised the user yesterday, with success reported.

The question now is how to tell Edge not to sound the alarm every time?

If they want to save the time (about 3 seconds I think); it takes to do an extra right click and an extra left click and are happy with removing a level of security then:

Click on where it says 'Not secure'

Then click on 'Permissions for this site'

And change 'Insecure Content' from 'Block (default)' to 'Allow' and then open a new tab, go in to the Web interface and Bob's your uncle

Excellent. Thank you.

It's less to do with the 3 seconds than the irritation, and you also need to factor in declining mouse coordination with age (fewer clicks is good).

I take it from the above that the level of security is only being relaxed for the one site.
