Winter Olympics

It would help if a BBC web page listed the start/end times of when they are showing each sport and which feed it is on. I know when the events take place but that is not always when the BBC shows them!

I seem to be wasting a lot of time scrolling through the feeds trying to find when (if) they are showing the sports I want to see - mostly figure skating and freestyle ski/snowboard.

Yes, the best I've found is the event schedule* but you have to assume they're showing the event you're interested in live, and guess whether it's on the main channel or the red button 😕. In some ways the fact they've only got one channel at a time coverage actually helps, as opposed to something like Wimbledon where you start a match recording, come back to watch it and find they switched to another channel half way through 😡

This is one is of very limited use but in case it's helpful: https://media.immediate.co.uk/volatile/sites/3/2026/01/WinterOlympicsDaysGuide-885e89a.pdf

The official site is good for the event schedule. https://www.olympics.com/en/milano-cortina-2026/schedule
You can filter the schedule with a list of sports unlike the BBC filter of one sport at a time.
Just need to find a page with the broadcast schedule

Fortunately I was watching not recording. Last night curling started on BBC1 then after ~10 minutes ended. Switch to BBC2 not quite started then all the rigmarole of opening titles and what's coming up before returning to the curling.

FFS - so scanning my recordings for the slalom leg of the women's combined skiing I found they'd put it on the red button, which I hadn't recorded. Annoying but understandable as it clashed with the GB curling bronze medal match. So I go to iplayer. Yes, there it is, great. Start it playing ... and the first they ****ing do is put a caption "Shock win for [country redacted]" at the bottom of the screen!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 In fact the title and description give what country and which skiers won. Are they ****ing morons???????

PS - mods - perhaps these posts should be moved into a separate winter olympics thread!

PPS - and they gave it 11 minutes, of which 2 they spent recapping the downhill leg. Come on BBC.

Looks like my fault - again (was post #11 in old thread). I thought it was a certificate error on the Aura during curling on iPlayer. What a can of worms I opened.

If a mod wants to split this (into Hummy Arms probably), #11 is a good starting point.
(Edit: modified to reflect thread split)

It's not just the Olympics either - sat down to watch the Edinburgh derby highlights last night only for the news immediately prior to not only give away the result but show the goal and tell you when it was scored. No pre-warning that they were about to let slip. Needless to say, didn't bother watching Sportscene after that - way to go BBC, how to decimate your viewing figures.

The iplayer organisation is absolute tripe. At the moment it's showing two streams, both marked as "live"; one says it's the men's skeleton, the other women's super-G. The first is actually the skeleton, but highlights; the other is (I think!) live but is the luge relay.

And again for the "BBC RB1" Red Button (now
Never mind your data concerns in General Incompetence. The curling kept switching channels again - if on at all. On screen banners on BBC1/2 telling me it continues on iPlayer when it was on 601. Vital stone missed when picture squashed to ~1/4 size to trail something else at ~1/2 size.

I didn't check but I suppose it could have been on 601 and iPlayer simultaneously. As the BBC wants to shove everything on-line 601 is an obvious candidate for the scrap heap. Most of the year it shows rubbish repeatedly. How long before BBC Parliament becomes on-line only?

It's all been on, somewhere. I just record everything and shift between them in a sort of interleaved way, spooling at high speed as necessary. Try doing that on your $h!tty iPlayer BBC. Not possible.

I'll take your word for it. I refuse to use it for anything live. They don't seem to know their terminology from their elbow sometimes.

That is aggravating. But the coverage from OBS has been terrible at times, with clueless directors using all the wrong shots.
they don't seem ever to mention Red Button. Perhaps that's on its way out too.
It's a pathetic political thing to pretend it doesn't exist and push everyone to the online cr@p.
And then they pushed Countryfile to BBC2 with zero notice so they could show some Olympics ... 🤷‍♂️
That was done at just after 3pm on Friday, which by my maths makes it roughly 51 hours. Hardly nothing.
Interestingly, the SCRID on 2 was "/b/3QQHP/02" whereas it's usually "/b/3QQHP" on 1.

For some reason they don't seem ever to mention Red Button.
I normally view on my Sky Q box and a "red button available" message comes on when you first switch to the channel (ie BBC1/2)
I suppose it could have been on 601 and iPlayer simultaneously
Yes it's on both, so I record the 601 and BBC1/2 coverage (as per below)

Yep me too. S*dding nuisance but it's the only way to do it.
