Right, ignore the above posts about it hanging. The humax box timed out as I was doing this so I restarted. What I didn't realise was it clears /dev/hosts on bootup, so it couldn't find my server - hence the hang. I'm not using IP address instead of hostname Running the ssh -i has finally...

Thanks Damian, Sounds like you have tried most of what I was going to try anyway. I can confirm XBMC on PC also doesn't allow scanning from hummy built in streamer. Its all a bit frustrating to be honest. I'm open to spending £100 on a decent media client, but it seems such a minefield to know...

Yes, I was aware of that. Although it is a hassle I think it would probably worth it assuming it allowed fast forward. I've not done it but I assume it is just a case of setting up an auto decrypt job?

As noted from the main Raspberry Pi thread the Humax DLNA server doesn't appear to support fast forward or rewind in XBMC. Is there a workaround for this, perhaps running a samba share on the hummy and connecting directly to that in XBMC, or using the mediatomb server instead? I'll have a go...

Well thats interesting. Raspberry Pi was my plan A. I have one, but gave up as it didn't work with SD stuff so moved on to plan B. Looks like it now does work with SD recordings so looks like I am back to my original plan after all. Amazing what difference a few weeks makes.
