This is just information on a problem solved in case it helps anybody.
I have a 1TB portable drive which works fine when connected to the HDR but I needed to swap it for a 2TB. I bought a Toshiba 2TB portable (powered through USB) which worked fine when I plugged it in to a running HDR...
I'll be looking at this when I can get it running, currently my problem is that I sometimes have to turn the amp off the humax and back on to it again to get a signal. The last full version seemed OK but the beta I currently use has the occasional problem. I just put that down to beta software.
I have the new system_id file but I can't get it onto the system, should I rename it to hdr_fox_t2_upgrade.hdf? That would seem a bit strange as it is not the normal firmware and am reluctatnt to do it without instruction. I don't want to risk overwriting something I shouldn't. I've emailed...
When I try to load up the new firmware the front panel just says E-ID and the tv says there is an error and refuses to load the 1.02.20 firmware. Any ideas?
I am currently running beta software but I don't see why that would cause a problem.
Now if you'd said that a few months ago you would have had a dozen replies in a minute telling you what a heap of garbage the box was and that they were never going to buy anything again.
There's not alot else going on at the moment on the HD- / HDR forums so why not just split into several threads rather than a new forum. That way those of us who keep a passing eye on it can follow the threads within the forum for the box we have.
I can play VOB files directly either from the NAS (ReadNASDUO) or from a UB hard drive. From the NAS I can skip but not from the USB. Unfortunately uncompressed the our weak wifi signal won't cope with the VOB properly, and the VOB is 3hours and 5+Gb. Not skipping could be a big hinderance...
Softer than 1080i, if it doesn't then you're not gaining any benefit from HD. A good upscaler can provide a good picture but it will neer be the same. Of course picture size and viewing distance may mask the differences.
For some reason I was thinking of 1080i25. 1080i50 will have an almost...
The simple answer is to try it. SD looks soft whatever you do so perhaps try 1080p to see if you can see the difference on the HD material.
If they are switching between 1080i and 1080p are they suddenly doubling the bit rate or compressing more heavily, something has to give.
Well I've got something working, I found an old copy of Adobe Audition 1.5 on my system (it only supports ID31.1) and saved the file as 256kbps in two variants. using tags the file plays fine but if I select the "audio only" checkbox (which I assume removes any tags) the file does not play...
2 of the 3 that did not play had no tags according to "Stamp ID3 tag editor" so I added tags. The Humax displays the tags correctly.
Now the file spends 10s PROCESSING then 10s not playing and also locks the system so nothing responds, I had to do a hard power off.
What utilities will show me...
