The Humax can act as a digital media player (DMP) but I don't believe it will work as a digital media renderer (DMR). This means that you can go to the Humax and pull content from your media server running on your Mac, as explained by Black Hole, but you cannot push content from the Mac to the...
Whatever you do, do not plug it into a Mac. The Mac version of the driver will corrupt the EEPROM of the dongle. The dongle will continue to work on Windows or Mac but it will look like a camera to the Humax and won't be recognised. It is not easy to reverse.
This is most likely to be a configuration problem of your Twonky server, or you have some .ts files that contain something other than standard mpeg2 or h.264 video.
The Humax looks for a separate SRT file with the same name as the MP4 file you are playing. You do not need to touch the mp4 file for it to work. Press SUB on the remote to display subtitles and OPT+ to change the subtitle options.
The Humax will not display subtitles embedded in a ts file unless accompanied by the correct hmt and nts files. It might work if you create an external srt subtitles file (works with mp4 but not tried with ts). Alternatively, install the custom firmware and do the editing on the humax itself...
VLC only does partial hardware acceleration, see this wiki article for more info. It is more to do with the design of VLC than limitations in the OS. I have had some success with gnome mplayer where VLC has failed in playing 1080p material on my atom-based netbook with an Ion chipset. Just make...
I have been using channel 4 since day 1 without any problem. I do use the custom firmware and have the wifi helper packages installed, but I don't think they affect the Humax's ability to operate in any particular channel. What they do let me do is to use a router that doesn't broadcast the SSID...
Apple replaced the Samba server with their own in Lion. Their implementation of the SMB server does not interoperate with older clients such as the one provided in the Humax samba package. You can either install SMBUp (works on Lion, haven't tried on Mountain Lion) or simply use NFS instead of SMB.
Unfortunately this won't work. Files on the Humax are encrypted and anything ftp'ed off the Humax stays encrypted. FTP is strictly a backup solution - backed up files must be restored to the original Humax for playback.
If you want to play recorded video on your iMac, you can turn on content...
Would definitely recommend a shorter cable if it has to power a USB hard drive. Most (cheap) USB extension cables are thin and therefore have significant internal resistance. As BH says, the voltage drop will be substantial.
The strange thing about Bill's problem is that he was having trouble with ITV4, an SD broadcast which uses MP2 audio only. The Humax always outputs PCM in that case regardless of the audio preference (p.50 of the manual). Strange.
Hi Black Hole, It's my turn to get confused. Shouldn't the video signal down the HDMI wire be locked to whatever is set in the Humax V.FORMAT setting, 1080i or whatever? As for audio, if you set it to stereo, shouldn't the Humax always decode it to 2-channel linear PCM regardless of the input? I...
If you can persuade the ower of the communal aerial to turn the aerial 90 degrees to pick up the Rowridge VP transmission, everyone should get better reception as 1) Rowridge VP transmits all muxes at full power (200kW) whereas ARQ B in the horizontal polarisation is only at quarter power...
I have MediaTomb from the MacPorts distribution running on the Mac. Some TVs, notably Samsungs, require extra DLNA headers from the server. Google transfermode.dlna.org and contentfeatures.dlna.org. Don't know what Panasonic TVs require. There is one type of file that my Toshiba TV will play...
Software decoding of SD (mpeg-2) video generally works quite well on Android tablets and iPads, both of which share similar CPUs with the Raspberry Pi. I wonder if it is just an absence of codec and not a lack of CPU power that is stopping SD video from working in this case?
