I have an EyeTV DTV-T2 dongle in the back of my iMac which records both standard and high definition programmes unencrypted. I'd be surprised if similarly featured hardware wasn't available from other vendors.
(The recording software that is supplied by the current owner of the EyeTV brand is...
Thanks all, the SMB connection seems to do the trick - once I'd actually enabled SMB on the NAS...
I've set up a user on the NAS specifically for the Humax with read-only access to the shared folder with all the videos in it (don't want the missus accidentally deleting one!)
After getting a number of "can't play files in that format" errors I've discovered that my Humax refuses to play MP4 videos from my NAS if they're in 1280x720 or 1920x1080.
If I process the original MP4s through handbrake to reduce them to 960x540 they will play.
Is this a known issue? Should...
Ah, thanks, I wasn't aware of that option.
As it happens, last night I deleted the user ID and password via the webif. That caused some issues when I tried to connect to the HDR a bit later - presumably because it was still asking me for credentials, but had nothing to authenticate them...
When we're going to be away for a while, I enable dynamic DNS on the router so I can keep an eye on the Humax (as well as on our security cameras, which sometimes need a poke via their web interface if they get themselves in to a guddle such that they can't talk to the phone app).
I'm experiencing a problem at the moment whereby the webif repeatedly asks me to provide my user ID and password, at apparently random intervals during a session. I always provide the requested credentials, and tick the "remember" checkbox, but it never seems to be satisfied.
Any ideas?
That's what I surmised. Thanks for confirming. Good to know that it's still in good health, not bad for a device that's getting on towards 10 years old.
(Which makes me wonder whether I should actually have a plan for if it goes "phut" without warning. Currently the plan for anything I'd...
Hmm. AFAIK there shouldn't have been anything else using the file. Looks like the .decrypting file was OK anyway: I've downloaded it and removed the .decrypting suffix and VLC seems to play it OK as a .ts. Which is nice.
I'll need to read up on chkdsk.
Thanks for the guidance, much appreciated.
A password is set, I haven't changed it recently.
Decrypt seems to be behaving a bit oddly, too. It decrypted the video but left it in a file called <originalfilename>.ts.decrypting. In the past it's put the original .ts file in the Originals folder and renamed the .decrypting one to .ts...
OK, it's started doing it again. I've rebooted the box from the webif, and also tried a full power-down and restart, but it's still doing it :(
EDIT: Seems to be happening only when I have a decrypt running.
Just this morning the webif on my HDR has started displaying the annoying habit of continually asking me to log in. If I look away from the browser for even just a few seconds, I have to log in again.
Anyone seen anything like this before?
I tried reinitialising the apps just now, exited from the portal, waited a bit then went back in. The box crashed.
Has anyone else noticed that there doesn't seem to be a way to exit from iPlayer back to the portal home screen? I press "back" and it asks me if I want to leave iPlayer, I...
Well, that was very odd. For the last few minutes of Doctor Who this evening (watching the recording) the audio went very weird. Half the music was there, more or less intact - if a little choppy at times - but the voice track (and, as I discovered when I re-watched the scene on iPlayer, half...
The problem seems to have reduced in severity since I retuned with COM4 on channel 41 from Black Hill. I'm reluctant to suggest that the retune has 'fixed' anything - I can't conceive how COM4 being on channel 42 could have had any effect on TV channels on other muxes nowhere near the same UHF...
I ran away when WWIII broke out over Belling-Lee connectors. There aren't half some argumentative souls on this forum...
I have checked auto.log and AFAICS there are no auto-processing functions selected. It does seem to check every time a recording finishes, and twice in the early hours of...
IIRC I had this bright idea to replace the cheap white RF cable with a proper bit of aerial cable with nice metal coax connectors. Unfortunately that didn't seem to work very well (quite possibly it was my dodgy assembly of the Belling-Lee connectors that was to blame). By the time I worked...
