  Thanks for that Jon. I've been playing around with Handbrake. Re. sound, in the link Mr Lazy posted in post #4 it seems that the HDR supports ACC but not AC3 - it crashes the box!!

  Yup, you can only access media files using a DLNA server, which is what WMC is. You can't just browse your PC I leave mine permanently connected. One in the kitchen by the HomeHub, a 3-port one upstairs with my AirPort Extreme WiFi & Gigabit router (actually configured as a bridge) plugged in...

  Hmmm, I tried a few other searches and they all worked fine using all lower-case and they worked as expected. For some bizarre reason it only seems to be this one word 'wire' that's a problem. How strange :confused:

  Yes, the MAC address of the Humax is for the Ethernet port, as you've discovered, if you use WiFi the MAC address of the dongle (in this case) is what you need. Just like a laptop, the Ethernet and built-in Wireless have different MAC addresses.

  @yorkietyke & adrenalize - are you saying you've got setups that result in the same - or very close - volume levels for both SD & HD programmes? If so, can you explain it as I don't understand your setups. My HDR is connected to my Sony A/V amp via HDMI and the amp to the Sony TV also via HDMI.

Yes, the MAC address of the Humax is for the Ethernet port, as you've discovered, if you use WiFi the MAC address of the dongle (in this case) is what you need. Just like a laptop, the Ethernet and built-in Wireless have different MAC addresses.
