SSH / Telnet on Webif settings
Anyone noticed that the button to enable / disable Telnet does not seem to work properly? Would be good in any case to change the Disable Telnet options to yes / no as opposed to on & off. Non urgent, but just happened to notice some odd behavior on that button.- Cancunia

Standby aka Snooze mode
Booting into maintenance mode and spinning the disk down does leave it idle, but seems that just about anything including 'ps -A' or 'cd /mod/etc/init.d' will spin the disk up. Looks like it's going to be a challenge to get the disk to stay in standby. Anyone any thoughts on how to get into...- Cancunia

Unfortunately, hdparm does not keep the disk spun down even in half awake. Something is regularly accessing the disk every 30 seconds or so from what I can tell. Just in case that's Sysmon, I've removed it and will check via hdparm status over the next couple of days. Are there are any other...- Cancunia

Half Awake Mode
Half awake can be set from Remote Scheduling by a wake up, followed by 2 sleeps (you need to delete the second wake up). What this actually does to the HDR in addition to half awake is uncertain, so try at your own risk. I've noticed that native FTP does not work in this mode, so am not sure if...- Cancunia

Hopefully I'll find my way around a bit in the near future, at the moment my understanding is little better than being in the dark without a torch with some distant memories from the 90's Unix days to help me around. Unfortunately, disable_tsr does not spin the disk down on my HDR, the feature is active as I can no longer pause / rewind. It may well be that log files or other reads / writes prevent it. Maybe an alternative would be a redirect to Null or a USB disk, depends of course on what's being written...- Cancunia

Seems that the native FTP server is not running in Half Awake, not yet tried the BetaFTPd. If the box goes into half awake just before recording or waiting for OTA updates, presumably there's a script somewhere that does this.- Cancunia

Thanks 4291. I tried a few different ways without success but one way I could get half-awake mode was by scheduling a wake up & sleep via hummypkg remote scheduler then deleting the wake up. With the HDR in standby it would go into half awake at the time of the sleep command. Seems that the...- Cancunia

Thanks guys, I'd concur regards the half awake consumption it's maybe partially lower than awake with no activity but not a lot. Shame that Standby does not have the system running, but, that's life. Power Consumption - on all day or not?
Just found this thread after poking around for a couple of days looking for ways to leave the box on for ad-hoc remote access and save power. From what I can tell the HDR uses about 10-15Watts when fully awake with little or no playback / recording load. Using the original 16p/kWh that would put...- Cancunia

Yep, I can be believe the reliability would be better if the disk was kept spinning, servers normally keep disks spinning for reasons of reliability and access speed, a lot of hardware failures also come from power cycles. Having said that all modern disk drives and pc power management packages...- Cancunia

I've implemented diasble_tsr and can confirm that the TSR and live pause no longer work, but the disk still spins while the box is awake. I can understand how that would need to be the case from time to time, for example when booting or perhaps when updating the EPG, but had hoped it would spin...- Cancunia

Auto MPG ?
Continuing on my quest to upload files from the HDR T2, I've converted a couple of files to MPG, they are indeed a fair degree smaller. WEBIF Download Opt- Ports & Protocols ?
Certainly does work over port 80, many thanks AF123, now all I need is to be able to run the downloads overnight. I'll switch to FTP when I remember to allow it next time I can log into the router.- Cancunia

I'd like to use the Download option from the 'OPT+' button in the Webif media browser, but from out side of the LAN via the Internet. I can browse to the correct file, click on OPT+ but then nothing happens. From some info I read somewhere (can't remember where) the download option should...- Cancunia
