Ezra's mate = TS Eliot. The "all shall be well" bit is from Eliot's Little Gidding. He in turn was quoting Julian of Norwich ( who wasn't a bloke after all! )
Bloody Poetry!
Ah, but at least you know it. After 30 years designing big business systems ( insurance and pensions rather than techy stuff ) I'm glad to be out of it. My impression is that those who now claim near perfection have merely reduced expectations to their miserable achievements. Most big IT...
Not you? I remember reading it somewhere in one of the discussions about the forced retune issue - maybe someone commenting on one of your posts. not trying to put words in your mouth!
I'm going to manually retune this morning, get rid of the 800s, remove padding and go back to AR. Then all...
Is it possible to quantify this? For example would there be much risk if I was away for a week with the Humax in standby but waking to record 5 or 6 programmes of an hour or so ( ie typical pvr use?). The other extreme would be if the box was permanently on in a darkened room ( ie more like a...
Thanks again BH - its clear now. I do have an intact schedule ( but wouldn't the CF have restored that anyway? ).
It hasn't retuned because I do in fact have disable-ota and disable-dso installed! I'm getting very old you know, well very drunk anyway. Your link mentions a theoretical...
I think that is a more accurate description of what I meant by "epg problems". As I recall I had selected a program to record from the epg and when I went to play it later the message was something about "couldn't track the programme". I was using AR and that was given as the reason. I'm...
I'm still pretty new to the Humax myself but as I understand it the reason to do a manual retune rather than auto is to avoid picking up from more than one transmitter. And the reason to avoid multiple transmitters is because the Humax can get its epg in a twist if you don't.
This doesn't mean...
Yes, that's the one. I've never had a problem with freezing but maybe lucky so far.
I appreciate there are other ways to get the transmitter info but thought this route might be worth highlighting for anyone else browsing since it is so convenient.
Others will know better than I but I don't...
It may be useful to say that by far the easiest way to see what channels you have tuned is to use the channel information button on the diagnostics page of the web interface. So much better than trying to note it all down from the Humax's own settings menu.
I knew I was receiving from more than...
I had the problem with the Devolo devices but this does sound different - the HDR would show the network was not connected if the Devolo was sleeping. It would connect OK by going through the menu. If I switched the HDR off and then back on before the Devolo went to sleep ( about 20 mins ) it...
Thanks - I'd not given it much thought before but presumably a Humax server sits between the HDR and the various services providing a further point of possible failure.
It'll be nice one day to be the one offering helpful answers rather than yet more questions.
Since Wednesday Youtube has been playing up. It loads OK, searches OK, lists matching videos and appears to load the selected one. Then the message "Temporary error - please try again" appears.
I'm guessing its not a Youtube end problem or a generic firmware issue or it would already have been...
On Wednesday I recorded Room at the Top by schedule, intending to watch it and if it was any good watch/record the second part. I didn't notice the second part was actually next day, rather than next week, until just before it started. I selected it in the epg and hit record ( it was shown as...
Yep - the TiVo also constantly buffered live TV, even if you were simultaneously watching a recorded program. So 11+ years constant writing to disk. Pretty impressive, but also with hindsight a terrible waste of electricity.
I'm not sure that's the case. I have set Padding on in the HDR settings menu and though I have installed the CF I haven't set any channel specific AR/Padding preferences. So shouldn't the Padding settings apply as default?
As I said I will manual retune but it's a bit of a pain. With my old...
