      Another thing that caught me out a bit is that the remote has many.modes. just make sure that when you press the Media button, or whatever, the PVR button lights up red. Sometimes I put it into tv mode and forget to put it back into PVR mode. Just a thought really. I know you probably...

      I remember a poster advert for something I forget, but it had "fluff' freeman (an old radio 2 dj who has sadly passed away now) and it just said: "A pint! Not half!" One for the old-timers, I think! :D

      I'll try that tonight. In the interests of fair science, I'll boil a pan with water in it and the lid ON. It will still be quieter! Why is that? Also, in the interests of fair experimentation., I will be partaking in lots of scrumpy Cider to help the evening along. Heck, I may even forget...

      That's a good one - sounds very plausible. However, just to point out that my kettle is one which has a plate on the bottom and no physical element. So, essentially, my kettle and the pan on the stove are the same, aren't they? Isn't this great? I think we need more questions for discussion...

      We don't allow Google in the house on account of it not being house trained. But anyway, they didn't answer the question: lots of good stuff about why the kettle makes a noise, but nothing about why a pan (with lid on if you like!) doesnt. How often have you boiled water for your spaghetti and...
