  Thanks for the pointers, I've got Windows 8 so wasn't sure if Ext2Fsd would work, but I've got something similar and it seems to pretty much do the job.

  Hi there, at the moment when I've decrypted recordings on my HD Fox T20 HDD, I copy the files off via the ethernet connection to another machine on my network, but it takes a long time, especially for several HD items. Is this really the only way it can be done, as just plugging the Humax HDD...

  Yippee a second restart seems to have done the trick. Perhaps I didn't leave the box off for long enough before restarting it before. Thanks for the help :)

  HD Fox T2, I have a hard drive attached for recordings. Thanks for the tip, it doesn't seem to have worked alas. The diagnostic only seems to take a second, should it take longer? The file in question still seems to be flagged 'enc'.

  Hiya, Fenlander was right, it's to do with the audio stream, it seems. If I switch the audio stream to 'audio description', then skip to the start of the film, then change back to normal audio, it plays fine, although I then have to do the same with adverts. Thanks for the help!

  OK thanks. So I'd need a USB stick to upgrade the firmware (custom or otherwise) but a USB HDD to actually store programmes. How difficult is it to set up the custom firmware and the HDR Mode? How does the decryption work, does the device never encrypt the recordings in the first place, or...
