Amusing Items

Yeah, sorry, should have said it's a small igloo-tent-shelter thing. There's a lot of reflections in the laminated photo. But it's "perfect for dogs to" What!?

Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire has a new relief road. After a public vote it has been named "Pork Pie Way". PETA complained and suggested "Vegan Pie Way". Good luck getting that to be taken seriously, especially by the Reform run Leicestershire County Council. Melton is well-know for pork pies, not vegan pies. In any case, is that cannibalism? Pastry around a chopped up vegan -

BBC article before name decided.

The telly happened to be on when the late East Midlands Today (Tonight?) news last night went out. They made a complete horlicks of it, just naming the road, which seemed to be the only thing they were interested in, but not actually where it was (apart from Leicestershire), what it was bypassing, nor its road number or a map graphic. Totally worthless. FFS.

Can you actually demean a pig? What exactly is unethical about the treatment of such creatures as regards this naming? Some people are just bonkers, complaining about completely irrelevant trivialities. Do the pigs care? All they are interested in is food, mud, :poop: , and making more pigs. They don't care about such perceived "ethics" or names.

I'm not sure of the road number, but given where it is it may become the A606 and the existing A606 through Melton renumbered to something else (The A6 South of Loughborough through Quorn and Mountsorrel was downgraded when the bypass was built and the bypass became the A6. Similarly, in Nottingham wasn't Derby Road past QMC the A52 along with Radcliffe Road in West Bridgford - until the ring road between Wheatcroft Island and Gamston completed? Then the southern part of the ring road became the A52 with the route through the city centre becoming A6130/A6011)

Pork is Haram to Muslims and even the small hats could be offended by it. I suggest Halal-Kosher meat Pie Way to keep the carnivores happy, the vegans are too weak to put up much of fight in defence anyway.

And you think that'll be acceptable to a Reform run council. :rolling:

As I said Melton Mowbray is famous for pork pies. (Even though the protected status of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie extends to the Pork Farms factory in Nottinghamshire.)

I expect so.

Yes, I dredged my memory and then had to look at an old map (1954) which only had the A614 between (what is now) QMC and Dunkirk. Clifton Bridge and link to Dunkirk was added in 1958, and then the link up to Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft's was in 1965, both keeping the same number. The renumbering as you said happened in 1981 with the Lings Bar extension.

I never needed to know that, but rarely go that way, even more so with all the bu**ering about they're doing round there and making it generally hostile to go. It's quicker to go round on the 52, until the misery of the roundabouts upgrades start.

If Farage could make a few quid out of it for himself anything is possible. If he ever becomes PM Farage trainers, watches and other Trump style merch will soon follow, he would even peddle a Farage Quaran if it was an earner.
