Arq A/Com 5 problems

No it did nothing for that issue
I was stuck for something to watch and channel surfed to 4seven and ended up trying to watch Grand Designs. I kept missing bits when the live viewing paused itself. I say pause - but I couldn't resume.

Yes it has been that way for weeks now, when live if you wait long enough (a couple of minutes) it sometimes resumes but if recorded you have to skip forward then back a bit less to continue watching. All of this seems to be affected by time of day, during the morning and early afternoon you can watch for an hour with 0-1 or 2 pauses but late afternoon and evenings are unbearable. I have noticed that though there are often pauses during a show the most likely place it seems to pause is at the end of an ad break when they are showing a trailer . As I said Friday evening there was no issue on 4Xtra and now seems fine but I need more proof before I am convinced of improvement.

EDIT 3/12/24 Still getting multiple pauses at peak times.

I emailed Humax this ⬇️ 2 weeks ago and had a reply today...........................

Happy New Year to you all.
Sadly this year has started with the same issue as the last, I am still getting frequent picture freeze on several channels, 4Xtra, More4, 4/7 and I noticed today live Film4+1 has started to also have the same problem, 3 freezes in a single ad break and more during the movie forcing me to advance the channel then return to break the freeze every time. I am certainly not alone as several others have reported on the forums to having the same fault with some not bothering to tell you as they have no faith in you addressing the issue and are waiting to see if the fabled new Android update will cure everyone's woes. I would really like to know if anything is being done to address the now several months old freeze issue also is there any chance the Android update will come with a cure and when can we expect this new update?.
Thanks in advance.

Humax reply.

Thank you for reaching out to us about the ongoing blackout issue on those channels. We're sorry to hear that you're still experiencing this problem.
On our side, we currently do not see any widespread reports from other users, even within specific areas of the UK, as we did before. However, we recommend checking the transmitter updates and planned maintenance schedules on the Freeview website (https://www.freeview.co.uk/corporate/platform-management/planned-engineering-works). Additionally, retuning your channels periodically might help restore access.
Regarding the upcoming update, we’re unable to share specific details at this stage about what it will address. Rest assured, as soon as we have any confirmed information, we will promptly share it with all our users.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

IMHO having to frequently retune makes Freeview not fit for purpose
Having Freeview doesn't mean you have to retune. It's perfectly possible to do service changes dynamically, but it's just the usual lazy software implementations that the manufacturers' authors take that seem to make it necessary.

And when a new station arrives or an existing one changes multiplex?
What of it?
A service just appears on, or disappears from, an existing tuned mux. - it's just an entry in a table (well, several tables). This doesn't need a retune. The only time you should need that is for a change in transmission frequency, or other parameters, as often happened in the 700MHz clearance process.
Changing mux. is a deletion of one service followed by an addition of a different one. They're different service IDs, even though it may or may not retain the same LCN - usually the old one changes LCN at the same time the new one is added, for a period of parallel running.

What of it?
Rarely, if ever, has a new service appeared on any of my Humaxes or TVs by itself. None of my devices have managed a mux change. Name changes work on some devices and not others. LCN changes - who cares providing it wasn't a mux change as well? What should happen and what does happen because of lazy programming of the devices are two different things. Therefore, I have to initiate a rescan if I want to watch or continue to watch some of these channels. If it all worked as it should you wouldn't need your tunefix-update ;)

Yes to all of that, but none of it is due to the system and all of it is down to the software on the device in question.
None of that "makes Freeview not fit for purpose" which is what you said and what I take issue with.

If it all worked as it should you wouldn't need your tunefix-update
Freeview itself is fine, tunefix-update fixes the implementation of the receivers. It's easier to make the users retune than work out how to do it automatically. I think my TV does it without intervention.
