Some good news for a change: the Xmas/New Year specials for 2026 are cancelled. Hopefully it's permanent, but it sounds like it may not be.

It is being reported as a medical issue "“Following a CT Scan, it was found that I had two fractures in my mandible (jaw) which requires immediate surgery and a few months recovery." I sincerely hope the surgery requires them cutting out his tongue preventing anymore of his Christmas excrement decking the halls ever again.

Is that a dress shop that's fancy or a shop that has "fancy dress"? Or should it be "fancy-dress shop"? Or "fancy dress-shop"?
This is why I prefer "costume" as it's unambiguous. Presumably that's why David McKee wrote it like that too.

I'm not quite sure which channel and programme or continuity announcement but I definitely heard someone refer to a shtreet last night. This isn't Germany, where Straße is mainly pronounced shtrassa. Although I have also heard strassa - sometimes by the same speaker. Possibly "st" more common in Austria (and Switzerland?).

Except I've never heard of a costume shop, or at least hadn't. I regard this as a language shift (Americanising?) same as 'train station'.

Not when I say it. Hyundai can get knotted as well. I'm not sure about Dacia. Porche: having spent some time trying to learn German I might just bend to their pronunciation.
I still can't work out how Marathon is pronounced Snickers.
