Assume v. Presume

I'm not quite sure which channel and programme or continuity announcement but I definitely heard someone refer to a shtreet last night. This isn't Germany, where Straße is mainly pronounced shtrassa. Although I have also heard strassa - sometimes by the same speaker. Possibly "st" more common in Austria (and Switzerland?).

There is an american (capitalisation intentional) 'thing' where a lot of them speak with their teeth clenched together and lips sort of moving at the same time... probably makes the 'sh' sound come out.

Is it just an American thing? I've seen a so-call British so-called comedian who looks as though his teeth are clamped together when he talks. Then there are some of the upper-class twits who do the same. It is possible the (cough) comedian might "sh".

A plausible explanation could be that some people that have (or use to have) braces had got into a bad habit of trying to hide them while talking. I have seen some braces that have what look like rubber bands going between the upper and lower jaw... so, possibly they were trying to hide those.
Or they just have bad breath!

"Influencer"-types on telly seem to have to talk through toothy grins in a most unnatural way, presumably to show off the laminates they've had at vast expense funded by their followers / sponsors.

Not the comedian I have in mind, his name escapes me. He likes to show off his clamped together white teeth whilst talking.
