Aura Android 14 update now

I don't think the Aura will install the update without you clicking on the Restart Now button as shown in the above image.
You should be able to restart the Aura as normal without it installing.
Between Friday and yesterday when I installed the update my Aura had been shutdown and restarted a few times
and connected via WiFi, and never attempted to automatically install the update.
Automatically updating would interfere with any recording that might be in process.

You can individually update apps via the Google Pay Store Manage apps and games update page.

Updated to the recently released Aura update over 24 hours now here are some issues I have encountered.

Have had one broken recording overnight.

Long press on the power button (remote) will shut down the Aura immediately but also the TV
and my AVR if it is on.
Before the Aura would take about a minute to shut down (presumably saving data) but never
shut the TV down.
The TV would automatically switch from Aura as source to its own tuners, viewing therefore uninterrupted.

A new behaviour I have encountered, whilst the Aura is on and I switch to the TV as the source the Aura after about ten seconds now goes
in to standby and mutes the sound even though the TV is now the source it als mutes the sound when putting the Aura in to standby, this is
very annoying.
Prior to the update if I switched source to TV the Aura would stay on (blue LED) and would not
mute the sound.

Too often I have been faced with a blank screen and no sound after changing channel either by
using the number pad or the channel up/ down button, sometimes blank screen with sound.
Switching to another channel usually sorts this out, on one occasion I had to power down and
start up. Before the update it would do this very occasionally but never as much as it has done
in the past 24 hours, this was an issue reported in the years since it was launched, but looks like
in 5 years Humax has done nothing about it.

At the moment the Aura should be recording a programme, the Aura is powered down.
Prior to the update the Aura would indicate (while powered down) it was recording by showing a whitish orange LED.
The LED is off, and I am not convinced it is recording.
I have tried to power up by pressing the power button but the Aura is not responding, so I think
this is another fail.
I have waited 5 minutes after the scheduled recording was due to finish, the Aura is still not responding to the power button.
Unplugged waited a few minutes, started up, the Aura is on.
Checked the recording list, so the recording it was meant to be doing stopped after 23 minutes
(of an hours schedule) exactly the same moment I powered the Aura down. We all know that
the recording should continue even if you have powered down, this was the expected and realised behaviour prior to the update.
The scheduled recording was due to finish at 3pm, after restarting the Aura has decided to start recording whatever is now on that channel
with no apparent indication of when it is due to finish.
It certainly never did this before.

The above are all new behaviours encountered since updating, my Aura was never perfect
but after the update it seems less stable and more infuriating than it ever was.

Now that the very windy weather has passed I can say that the Aura is still prone to pixellation, whereas other devices I have including other Humax products do not.
I am certain over the years in both Humax forums this was discussed seems like Humax haven’t
been listening.

Still can’t connect to the Aura from my mac, never has done, the mac will connect to other devices
without any fuss.

I am at a loss as to the supposed improvements that Humax have made to the Auras operating sytem, there is no list being offered either here or on the Humax UK Aura Support Software page,
still showing the details of the last major update released in August 2021.

Seems it was mainly an update to the Android system which doesn’t effect me too much as I don’t use the streaming/ app side of things on the Aura, my TV is much better at that.

I will probably report back in a few days with any other findings.
On the TV and Aura handshaking and getting out of sync issue, I have a few devices linked together and controlling with a programmable Logitech remote.
I had to turn off HDMI-CEC on the AURA as it was sending signals that ended up in a loop with kit turning on and off chaotically as they competed for control.
The software switch on the Aura was not enough the same as on the Humax FVP-4000T and I now use a :
LINDY 41232 HDMI CEC Less Adapter Type A Male to Type A Female, Remove CEC line termination Pin 13 Compatibility Fix problem
Which has a pin cut to prevent HDMI-CEC running fully leaving my other devices to control things (TV, AMP etc) which has been working well for a few years.

Prior to this update and after using other apps like Youtube and then using the Freeview TV app I would sometimes get no picture on all channels just the bottom banners but the picture was totally black.
The only way to resolve it was a full power-down which I hate doing and I would leave it overnight off to totally clear the unit.
Since the first Update the issue stopped at least for now and apart from NTFS and FTP issues it has behaved very well.
Recording I do less often but have had some failed recordings before the update doing series etc. which catch you out and don't know if that is better or worse.

It caught me out as I was opening the messages icon and did not expect it to actually push me into an update with no escape button.
The icon just has a message count so you don't know what it is until clicked.

How well CEC works between all your devices is a complete lottery. There is no official specification and no interoperability testing (unlike USB, Bluetooth etc) and each manufacture implements it differently, sometimes even differently between different chipsets from the same manufacturer. It's a miracle CEC works at all. I just have it turned off on all my devices, and I use the non CEC output from my AV amp to my TV to be doubly sure.

Well, getting marginally hopeful, I blew the dust off the Aura tonight, plugged it in and turned on.
It would not respond to the remote control and my first thought was the dreaded "FreeView" button sticking down again, but it actually turned out to be flat batteries! Not used it for a year or four!
Checked for the update, nope. Restarted, played around with various things to remind me of how it (should) work.
Did a retune, restart, look for update - nope, nada, absolutely zero.
Turned off, unplugged and put it back as the door stop!

Did you make sure it was connected to the internet, either via WiFi or ethernet?

In still waiting for mine too, luckily I have one of the good ones…. at the moment :cautious:

You will to need it plugged in for a while not everybody has had it yet , it will flag you when it is ready it may take days or longer.
Both of mine came unexpectedly , the messages icon next to the cog on the front screen which will only show when a message is ready with the number of messages waiting.
Dont give up yet , despite my issues it has fixed some nasty bugs and I actually use it every day .

I know this is most certainly not the reason but I am finding it amusing that the people who have not had the option yet to download the update are the same people who had the least faith in Humax fixing anything or the update ever becoming a reality, needless to say I have no update available yet.

Despite the infuriating bugs, it does stuff that all my other devices dont and for playing every type of film or music codec and handling subtitles the way I want (for tired eyes or difficult dialogue), Playlists, bookmarks etc.
My other hardware players fast-forward in very large 4k MKV files like a snail the Aura Slider is close to instant.

I use it every day despite having a very good Panasonic OLED and Blu-ray player it ticks all the boxes it just needs fully debugging , something I used to do writing systems in Pascal in my Job.
I do record stuff and have had lost recordings on series which catch you out but am not so knowledgeable on that front.
But having the freeview TV go black on all channels fixed after the update is a winner.
I just had a new one my Home screen went black but the apps could be launched from the remote , Power reset fixed it.
It seems some boxes dont behave the same as if there is some difference of build or hardware, who knows.

Ooh, conspiracy theory - could be if they can match forum comments to a particular serial number or IP address. :devilish:😳

The Aura has snooped your Wifi traffic to find posts to this forum. It's then worked out your username and associated it with your box's serial/MAC and uploaded the details to the Humax server. They have then put a block on your upgrade, or at least postponed it right to the end of the list. IP addresses are irrelevant.

No need to, I already gave them more than enough reasons in the e.mails I sent them :)

There was another update released yesterday taking the build number from 1.00.57 to 1.00.59.
I updated to this new version early this morning.

Now when switching from Aura as source to TV as source the Aura after 30 seconds still goes in to standby, and mutes the sound.
I don’t like it going into standby when switching source, never used to do this prior to these latest updates and certainly never cut the sound.

A long press on the power button (remote) is no longer switching the TV off regardless if HDMI-CEC is set to off or on.
Whilst powered down it will not react to the power button (remote) to start it up,
it used to do this prior to these updates.
I now have to press the power button on the box. Annoying.
Once it starts up the sound is muted.

As a test I set a recording and powered the box down.
Prior to these updates the Aura would happily record whilst in the powered down state, the LED indicator would show a faint whitish orange light, to confirm recording in progress.
After updating to 1.00.57 the Aura did not perform the recording while powered down.
With 1.00.59 the Aura is recording but has started up in order to, unfortunately in doing this the
TV has changed from TV as source to the Aura which is not something that should happen.
After the recording completed the Aura did not return to the powered down state but stayed in standby. It never used to do that.

On a brighter note for the moment I am no longer encountering blank screens when switching channels.

Signal disruption is still evident on the Aura, any other TV or device at home does not suffer from
pixellation issues the way the Aura does.

Hey Ho.

As I wrote above, CEC is a crap shoot and it is a miracle it ever works properly on any device. The only genuinely valid complaint you can make about CEC is when a configuration option to disable it (which is what I think everyone should do) does not fully disable all use of CEC. In that case a Lindy CEC blocker will do the job.

"A long press on the power button (remote) is no longer switching the TV off regardless if HDMI-CEC is set to off or on."

I have had issues with eARC, ARC and CEC in the past on my Humax/AV amp/ TV set up which were only solved by plugging in the HDMI cables in the correct sequence and required them to all be powered up.

New member here - I had the Aura update notification last Sunday so installed it. All well and good initially. The box is 3 years old

The box has always been shaky and will restart when it felt like it. YouTube app would pause video after ads for some reason.

Anyway some blank screens when changing channels but now it will change to a lower resolution for some reason when YouTube adds have a split screen ie QR code on one side or even on some normal TV. It changes back when switching channels.

Anyone had this?

I dont use the box for anything except watch TV, Record and Youtube app so no USB films etc so dont know what all the settings do

This is not Aura-related but may help clarify the benefit of the Lindy adapter mentioned by Owen.
Earlier this year I replaced my soundbar with a new Denon one that could connect by HDMI eARC but lacked a display of its own - just some LEDs.
The HDMI connection meant I could see on the TV what I was doing with it and use the TV remote to control volume.
However, every once in a while the Humax would come on with no sound. This was never a problem with the previous bar that was connected by optical
and switching to optical on the Denon it worked flawlessly - but I lost the visual and covenience benefits mentioned above.
After a bit of debugging/testing/googling I tracked the issue down to the fact that (due to a shortage of HDMIs on the TV) I had the Humax and a Roku
stick going into a selector box before the TV. Despite the selector being set to Humax the soundbar was still, ocassionally, being confused by the 2 sources.
It wasn't convenient to separate them so I invested in one of these Lindy adapters and stuck it on the TV end of the HDMI cable from the selector box to the TV port.
That was 3 months ago and the problem has gone away (along with a load of earache from SWMBO :-)). £15 very well spent in my case.
