Cant connect using SAMBA from Windows 11 anymore

Hi I have always been able to connect to my Freesat box using SAMBA, I have enabled the SMB 1.0 settings, not sure what else to try, My old netbook running Win 7 can connect, so I know SAMBA is running on the Hummy.

Anyone else having issues.

Can you connect vis FTP if so how?

Don't currently have a Foxsat connected to the network to test, but Windows 11 implements additional restrictions on SMB connections over and above disabling SMB v1.0 by default. Enabling the v1.0 connections is a good start, but Googling for "windows 11 samba restrictions" (other search engines are available) hints at disabling guest access (credential-less access) by default and the requirement for SMB signing. And there could be more. If you're brave then you could work through and disable all those features on Windows 11 and eventually get it to connect to the Foxsat. But in so doing, you would have obviously made your Windows 11 device significantly less secure.

Yes FTP is available as a connection method. You'd need a client such as Filezilla on your Windows machine and to have installed the vsftpd package on the Foxsat. Default username and password will be in the documentation.

Thanks Adrian.

I've had no SMB access to my Foxsat-HDR since a Win 11 update (it was OK initially) and have wondered why exactly. You've explained that for me very clearly. I may as well disable SMB1 on this laptop.

Makes using MediaInfo to determine if a recording is in 5.1 more painful but hey ho.. that's life.

PS thanks to whoever relocated the thread to the correct area.

Here's an alternative.

Foxsat-HDR Twonky or Media Tomb -> PC/Laptop running VLC -> VLC UPNP - find Foxsat, find recording start playing -> VLC got to Tools/Codec Information

Amongst the info is Stereo or 3F2M/LFE (aka 5.1)

Note: be sure to check during the actual program. Sometime the channel logo intro is in stereo then it switches for 5.1 for the actual program. Sometimes the channel logo intro is 5.1 too?!
