Change Two Letters Game v2.0

BH, did you stay up all night thinking this out? 3.43am, really? !!! :sleep:

Why not just revert to the original game?
 
I was just catching up after an evening out...

(the evening out ended at 12.30, but there was then a 2½ hour drive)

Which original game - v1? That was less restrictive than v2. There is no reason this game should be less challenging than v1, maybe we're better at it - or maybe nobody's trying to make it difficult with what they play.
 
How about ... you can change one letter anywhere in the existing word, and/or add or subtract one letter, but this only at the beginning or end of the word.
