Crop fails on manual use of Detect Adverts

Yes, so are we all agreed this isn't an actual problem then? It's as expected.

I'm not sure yet. I've only ever used crop 'manually', so this treatment of bookmarks is not what I expected. I've never used detectads so I will need to think what I would expect in those circumstances. But please feel free to go ahead without me!

I normally expect the Bookmarks option on the Opt drop-down to be greyed out, but in my tests it is active,

The only reason to make the Bookmarks menu item unavailable is if the recording is somehow incompatible with having its bookmarks edited (including adding new ones). That might be the case if there is no .hmt file.

Sorry. That was my mistake - and my sloppy description. I shouldn't have said on the 'bookmarks option', which incorrectly gave the impression that the bookmarks option couldn't be selected.. I should have said that on the resultant bookmarks display , the non-existent bookmark is displayed but not editable i.e. yellowed-out! (See above screen shot and explanation) Sorry again.

What you are calling a ghost bookmark is actually a slider that you can drag to position a new bookmark. It is grayed out until activated by clicking on +
Compare what you are seeing with a brand new recording that has not been processeed by Decryption, Crop or anything else
Arguably the slider button shouldn't be displayed until you hit + but AFAIK nobody else has commented in the last 12 years so if it aint broke don't fixit

I'm not sure whether this was meant for me or not. If so, we may be at cross purposes? I've never used detectads (the log is empty) and I only use autorun for decrypting recordings (which are in the log). Our usage of crop would appear to be quite different. Having said that, I'm quite happy to run tests for you if that would help.
