Failed recordings

On Friday I scheduled five recordings for Saturday. When I came home on Sunday I found that they had all failed, showing up in my list as of zero length.

I'll gladly give more information, but don't know what is likely to be relevant.

I note that I have the customised firmware. Also I had recently had several occasions when the installation wizard had shown up on starting. But the last time that happened I had restored my favourite channels and the failed items were set up after that.

I suffer from periodic zero length recordings and haven't yet managed to figure out what causes them to occur

I had deleted them before seeing the response. I have the customised firmware, so deleted items usually show up in a Deleted folder. In this case, either because of an issue with the customised firmware or because they were of zero length they did not appear there so I cannot try playing them.

Yes, if there had just been one zero length item I would have taken it as a glitch, but when several recordings across different channels had zero length I worry that something serious has gone wrong. I'll see if a recording scheduled for tonight works ok.

You want to know what the problem was but you deleted the evidence?

Recordings do not only comprise the .ts file. The .ts may have been zero length, but the .hmt file still contained information.

Sometimes a reboot works wonders, but could it be as simple as the disk being full?

With the customised firmware, deleted files should still be available in the Deleted folder. I was surprised that these were not present.

No, the disk is not full, though I can see why you think of this as an obvious possibility. Not too long ago I deleted all my recordings, as I had copies on my computer if I needed them again. The disk is almost empty.

I'll investigate further after I've made a recording tonight, and seen if it works, and what happens when I delete. It wouldn't surprise me if zero length .ts is treated differently from non-zero length, but I thought the experts would have known whether or not this is so. Thanks for the suggestions.

Which specific programmes were scheduled? On which channel(s)? Are the most basic questions.
Then which transmitter / region / Nation.

One Talking Pictures, one Channel 4, several consecutive BBC2 HD. I'm in London (Hampstead area) so I guess Crystal Palace.

I also get 0 length recordings periodically, and haven't been able to ascertain a reason. It happens on both TV and radio.
It is not associated with having a program recorded immediately before or after (one of the regular 0 length recordings is "Life Scientific" with Jim Al-kalili on radio 4 in the mid morning). Checking the log on the RS shows that it thinks that the program has been recorded for the required length of time, but looking at the queue log on the web interface shows that it cannot process a zero length recording.

Two recent scheduled recordings on different channels worked successfully, so I guess we can just say there was a glitch. What with a number of recordings on different channels all having failed, I was worried that something was significantly wrong

I'm surprised you didn't try scheduling 2-5 recordings shortly after discovering the failed ones. It would have been a fairly quick and simple test to check how bad the issue was.

CP and Reigate (PSBs SFN with CP) are predicted for NW3 1QL (Hampstead Post Office). All very green so minimal chances of any co-channel interference (if the weather was right on Saturday, I can't remember).

ArqB, D3&4 if C4 SD otherwise all BBC B (HD mux). Unless latest recordings made were from those muxes I'd be checking the Hummy's S and Q readings for both (Arq B is freq ch 28, BBC B is 30); and compare to the others from CP.

No aerial amplifiers (boosters) involved that may have been turned off (accidentally) while away?
