Forum software upgrade planned for 20/11/2024

It seems up to date to me (AFAIK - I'm no expert):

Where are you seeing this Feb 2024 thing?
I am seeing it in the feed reader
It is also showing an HTTP error 403 for that url, so I wonder if since feb 2024 it needs to be logged in to access the feed?
How did you capture the above - is it from a logged in session?

Then that would seem to be ancient cached data that it's showing you.

Since only a few weeks ago, but yes you do need to be logged in to access anything here now. Search the forum if you want to know why.

I just downloaded the file in my browser and opened it in a text editor.

I have managed to download the file when I log in from a new tab that shares the logged in status.
When I use another browser or private tab, then the file download fails with 403
It doesn't seem helpful that the rss files cannot be accessed unless logged in - which my reader doesn't support - but it is what it is.
Thanks for your help in getting me to understanding the issue.

RSS feeds seem to be considered old fashioned and I stopped trying to use them when sites I was following stopped feeding and Google RSS reader support ended. I just use the forums email notifications
Ditto, I used to use a great RSS news aggregator to pull together all my RSS feeds but that was discontinued and nothing else I've tried came close; plus as you say various sites discontinued their RSS feeds. Trouble is I've found nothing useful or usable to replace the aggregator / feeds I used to use.

I really do highly recommend Newsblur - see www newsblur com/faq - Hosted version - Trial and free tier available for 64 feeds, great iOS app. Opensource and self-hostable too.
I use Newsblur for tech news, general news, podcasts (for the show notes), Reddit, Youtube subscriptions.
With the RSS feed browser plugin you don't even need to scour the website for the RSS icon / feed uri.
(NB - I am in no way linked to this service, just a very happy long term subscriber of the hosted service)

I use Newsblur
Someone's comments on its social-ness (or otherwise) as a feed reader:
NewsBlur: double-tapped at startup (March 2025), and then sent lots of nutty out of sequence If-Modified-Since values. By nutty, I mean "went to sleep for 303 days, then came back, and started sending the previous IMS value". How do you do that when the server is hitting you in the face with a new value every time you poll?

>> ANDYWE link removed as I cannot post links in replies - yet
Thanks for that. I can only attest to it's effectiveness as an end user, not to it's server-level hygiene or refinement.
I hope rachelbythebay has fed back any problems to Newsblur (an opensource project) via Github or the Newsblur forums.
