Foxsat HDD replacement

I recall that the fan is attached to the original plastic 3.5in HDD enclosure, which I discarded. Without the enclosure the 2.5in disk sat on the base of the HDR has a reasonable airflow around it - I haven't had any problems.

It is and it seems foolhardy to have discarded it. The 2.5" HDD could equally well have sat in the caddy, or even been secured to it.

What airflow? Only convection, and that is unlikely to be sufficient. The fan cools the HDD and the SoC.

I suggest you monitor the temperature reported by the HDD SMART stats, they'll indicate how close to the wind you are. I don't know whether the Foxsat CF has anything equivalent to HDR-FOX CF's Sysmon.
