Been meaning to post for a while but needed to find time to re-run some tests and make sure I'd remembered correctly. All the furore over the Aura EZ has given me the motivation. I'm posting this as it may help people differentiate between what are Freely issues and what are Humax ones. Back in October I needed to get a new TV and plumped for a Panasonic TB-50W61AEY Freely model as my aerial can, on limited occasions, be a bit weather-affected. This was just as a safeguard and future-proofing as we generally watch all TV via the T2. What follows is a snippet from an avforums post in Dec 2024 regarding a Hisense Freely TV -
"I'm actually in the opposite scenario with a 75U6NQTUK, my aerial is a bit flaky, but good internet. If I set up the TV without the Aerial I get the streamed channels, but if I then 'top up' the channels with an aerial as freely like to call it, the streamed channels get overwritten with the aerial counterparts".
I post this because it behaves in exactly the same way on my Panasonic. Additionally, and weirdly, when the DTV channels are in play I get no EPG info for BBC1 & 2 but do for all the other channels. After a few weeks of unsuccessfully trying every permutation I went back to ask one of the salespeople in John Lewis if I was just being a bit thick. I was greeted with a wry smile and directed to a Panasonic helpline number along with the comment that 'they all do that'. I think it is safe to say that either the Freely spec is very poorly defined or the manufacturers are playing fast and loose with it. I'm inclined to think that it is the former.
